The Tegan Beanie

I know it’s not quite winter hat weather right now. In fact, it was such a long winter that I’m not sure I want to see another toque (that’s Canadian for winter beanie) again! But I couldn’t help but post about this after I stumbled upon this lovely pattern the other day.

Can you believe this is a crochet pattern? I love it! I definitely need to spend some more time crocheting next fall and this one tops my list for lovely colour-work projects for winter!

You can get the pattern for this “The Tegan Beanie” for only $3.33 CAD (today, anyway; the currency-conversion is always shifting, but suffice it to say it’s a reasonably priced pattern!) from Fiber and Fern Designs.

Pin it for later!

Love this CROCHET pattern for a this gorgeous winter beanie (toque) pattern! Winter comes every year. It's never too early to start on next winter's next hat, right?

Beautiful Wreaths for Every Month of the Year

I have a thing for wreaths. I have made a few. I want to one day have wreaths for every season, maybe even different ones for every month! (But where would I keep them?!) Anyway, I have these really lovely french doors in the front of our house and I have 2 hanging spots for wreaths up there, and sadly, I only put wreaths up a Christmas-time. But I’ve found some great inspiration for when I get it together to get wreaths up there year round.

January

I love this gorgeous, simple spring wreath with lovely cream-coloured berries! Perfect for winter after Christmas is over.

February

As much as I love pink and hearts, I’m not all that interested in super sappy-wreaths hanging on my front door, so this twine-wrapped wreath with pink felt flowers is my kind of Valentine’s Day wreath. Perfect for February!

March

I love this green “Lucky” wreath, which is perfect for St Patrick’s Day, but also fine to leave up for the whole month of March, since it’s not so obviously decked out with St Patrick’s Day paraphernalia.

April

Look at these matching Easter wreaths for my double french doors! Perfect! This would really add some spring life to my front door!

May

This wreath full of tulips would be perfect for Mother’s Day and the rest of May! So springy and full of colour!

June

This is a little bit of an unconventional wreath because it’s more like a pot of flowers, but it’s so fun, bright and cheery, full of gerbera daisies and greenery!

July

Now, I live in Canada, so we celebrate Canada Day on July 1, and this one is not actually a finished wreath, but a pattern for only $2.50. Get the pattern here.

And because so many of my readers are in the US, I’ve picked 2 wreaths for July, so that my American friends can view the beautiful wreaths for Independence Day (I must say, SOOOO many more options of July 4 wreaths than Canada Day wreaths, so I might be a little jealous). I love this Americana Wreath, so classic.

August

My August wreath pick is this lovely faux boxwood wreath with a monogram. Get your customized monogram and choose your colour. This wreath works for year-round use and is super classic.

September

I love this sunflower wreath! Gorgeous! I wish I had time to make one just like it! Check out all the wreaths for every month of the year that craft evangelist has found!

I love yellow and I love sunflowers! This Sunflower Wreath is my September pick for a lovely sunflower wreath to remind you that summer isn’t quite over yet!

October

I’ve decided to go with a Halloween-themed wreath for October, even though Canadian Thanksgiving is in October. I love this adorable spider web wreath, an understated, classic Halloween-themed wreath.

November

So, for the Canadians, we’ll kindly wait until November for the Thanksgiving pick. I love this Thankful wreath, a beautiful wreath to celebrate fall and Thanksgiving and the beauty and abundance of the season.

December

I’m not sure if this beautiful paper red rose & pinecone wreath will be suitable for outside or not, but IT IS SO GORGEOUS. Such a lovely classic wreath for Christmas-time! It’s too bad I already have Christmas wreaths, because I would totally get a couple of these. They’d look so good on my white french doors!

I hope all the wreaths I’ve found will give you some inspiration for making a wreath of your own, or just picking one up from one of these fantastic Etsy sellers! So many gorgeous wreaths! One day I’ll have one for every month of the year!

Best Baby Patterns

Spring is for babies! So many babies being born or babies-to-be announced! So it’s got me thinking about and searching for some lovely handmade patterns to knit and crochet as gifts to welcome these new babies! Check out some of them below.

*Disclosure: some of the following links are affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

I love this adorable crocheted deer hat. It would make a great gift for a baby of a hunting family (though, that’s kind of morbid if you think too much about it…) or super cute for a Christmas baby.

This sweet crochet pattern for a textured baby hat with an adorable bow would be the perfect gift for a new little girl baby! Pink and bows are so much fun! My little girl loved pink and I loved to make pink hats for her… now not so much with the pink. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Booties are always a great thing to make for new babies. I love to make booties because, with the right pattern, handmade booties will actually stay on a baby’s feet! So many baby slippers and socks will just slip right off and then you end up losing them and that’s a real shame. I can’t tell if this pattern above allows those ties to go around the ankle, but I know this pattern does, because I have made them a number of times and it is a great pattern.

It’s definitely easier taking photos of slippers once there are someone’s feet in them! You should totally try out this pattern if you have a baby in your life. Hook Candy has a couple of slipper patterns that I have made and they are really great.

Here is the pair I made for my youngest baby (over 7 years ago *sniff*).

Maybe you have lots of time or a very special baby coming your way, then you can crochet up this adorable set of booties with a matching hat! I love buttons on baby booties!

Or, if you are not as good with gauge yet, you could make a decor gift like this teddy bear rug for baby’s room. What a sweet pattern! It would make a fantastic shower gift that everyone will oooh over!

Or you could make a super cute toy pattern! There are also plenty of fun amigurumi patterns here on my blog for you to check out or on my Amigurumi Pinterest board. This adorable Spotty the Cow amigurumi pattern is super sweet and a unique toy to make for a new baby. Love it!

If you liked these patterns, don’t forget to follow my Knit & Crochet: Baby board on Pinterest, where I post all sorts of great knit and crochet patterns and inspiration for babies!

Check out this beautiful giant bohemian dream catcher backdrop! Wouldn’t this look fabulous at a bohemian wedding?! And then you could take it home and decorate your bedroom with it! So pretty. If you’re going to invest in wedding decor, you should get something you love and can use later. And at all the weddings I’ve attended, I have rarely seen decor that would translate into home decor, but this. Look at this:

If you are into bohemian style, you need to check out this large macrame dream catcher. I think it would be great in a bedroom or if you are getting married, fabulous behind the head table… gorgeous!

So many gorgeous photos and such beautiful artwork! This would definitely be beautiful in wedding pictures! But then, imagine it in your bedroom or living room, reminding you of your wedding day and inspiring you!

I think boho style is so relaxed and calm. This would be so lovely behind your bed in your bohemian bedroom. Check out The Woven Dream Factory’s Etsy shop for all sorts of other sizes, too, if you’re not looking for a giant backdrop. So many options!

Farmhouse Style

We bought an old house almost 8 years ago, right before we had our third child, so it’s been pretty overwhelming. It needed some work. We did some work. It needed more work. We did some more work. It needed more work. We did some more work. We’re kind of tired of doing work, but it still needs more.

*Disclosure: some of the following links are affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

We’ve taken a little break over the past little while, but now I’m planning and dreaming again. We’re not really sure this house is going to work for us over the next 10 years, but we need to get some stuff finished up before we try to sell it. One of the important projects is getting our family room renovated properly. There are some ceiling issues from a leaky roof and window that we got fixed up and the flooring needs to be replaced as well. There’s a wall we might take out, but we’re still on the fence about it.

I think our family room would look great decorated in a farmhouse style. I already have some great plans for a DIY project for our table. It’s a double-pedestal oak table, with 2 large leaves. It can seat 10 people when fully expanded. I’m hoping to do this to it:

I’m not a big fan of really obvious fake-weathered things, but I like the rustic vibe of some farmhouse style. Check out these awesome Etsy finds for some pretty awesome farmhouse decor. I’m totally going to try to DIY some of these, or maybe even splurge on a few of them!

I love this rustic chalkboard calendar. I’m a big fan of the chalkboard look, as you may know.

There’s also this beautiful giant clock! I think I might be able to make one of these myself with this tutorial by Gather & Flourish.

I made a similar doily rug to this one for my bathroom, but I improvised a lot with on the pattern, so this way you actually have a pattern if you want to make one yourself. Here’s mine:

Beautiful doily rug made from recycled t-shirt yarn created by craft evangelist

I made this bathmat out of recycled t-shirts!

The same person who designed the doily rug pattern also created a pattern for these lovely crocheted baskets, which I think are absolutely adorable and fit in so well with farmhouse style decor or any decor, really! So sweet!

I’m sure I’ll have some other great farmhouse decor finds for you, since it’s really trendy right now and I’m just getting started with my ideas. You can check out my Farmhouse Style Pinterest Board for more Farmhouse Style inspiration!

This farmhouse style chalkboard calendar would look so great in our family organization hub! I love the chalkboard idea... start fresh each month! Gorgeous clock! This handcrafted farmhouse style clock will add a country feel to whatever room you hang it in. It's made of re-purposed pallet wood with hand painted numbers. You can get these here.

Another awesome gift for the gardener is this great Milkmade Apron (and it’s currently on sale right now!).

The Milkmaid Apron. Great all-purpose linen apron for gardening, collecting eggs from chickens. Vintage cross back linen apron with deep pockets

Oh, and you have the check out this excerpt from the description. First, a pretty normal description:

It is the attention to detail on this apron that really makes it stand above the rest. The leather tabs and grommets hold the straps securely, giving more durability than the average apron and allowing for easy adjusting to fit any size. The vintage, blue striped fabric is in limited supply and, due to popularity, will not last long. The three large pockets are cut on a slant, with a tall thin pocket, perfect for utensils, paint brushes, or gardening tools, a middle pocket for larger items and a smaller one for a cell phone or other odds n’ ends, making it an ideal kitchen apron, garden apron or craft apron.

Then here’s my favourite line:

Put it on and you will be prancing through fields of wild lavender and baking bread from scratch in no time!

Haha! Awesome!

And now, for the knitting mom:

Haha! Love it!! Knit fast, Die warm! PDF printable art perfect for the craft room!

As a knitter, I think this is awesome. As a gift, this sign is super budget-friendly because it is a printable sign. It is also great for kids who procrastinate a lot because it’s an instant download. So, buy it, download it, print it, frame it and wrap it up. You’re good to go.

Maybe your mom doesn’t have enough mugs. Or maybe she just needs a really hilarious one! This one is good for a laugh.
