Fantastic Fall Foxes

Ok, it’s fall. My feet are freezing. It’s entirely too cold here for fall; it feels more like winter. The leaves just gave up the ghost after the most recent snowfall and cold snap. The chilly weather just makes me want to curl up with some tea and crochet. But I’m going to keep saying that it’s fall and thinking about fall things.

Probably it’s their warm orange colour that makes me feel like foxes are so very fall. So I’ve rounded up a bunch of fox patterns in celebration of “Fall” (no matter how cold it is outside).

Firstly, I’ve found this sweet little amigurumi doll crochet pattern, “Foxella the Fox Fairy“. Isn’t she lovely? Her curly purple hair and pointy fairy ears are just a couple of details that I love about this gorgeous doll pattern By Sedef. With her removable foxy capelet, she absolutely fits the bill for a fantastic fall fox!

While the doll was dressed up like a fox, if you’re looking for a stuffed animal pattern for a fox, you need to check out this tiny and adorable Fox crochet pattern by Little Owlet Shop. Isn’t he sweet? He’d make the cutest little baby shower gift for a fall baby!

Maybe that Foxella the Fox Fairy made you a little jealous with her fox capelet and you wanted one for yourself. If so, why don’t you make yourself one with this Flint Fox Cowl pattern from The Velvet Acorn? Keep yourself or a loved one cosy and warm this fall and be festive for the Halloween holiday coming up at the same time!

If a whole cowl isn’t your thing, then this hat by The Hat and I will warm you or your little one up without as much fuss (or yarn!). This Forest Friends crochet pattern is a three-in-one pattern with options for a racoon hat, an adorable deer hat AND a fox hat. Perfect!

Of course, if you’re not wearing the cowl, you’ll need to keep your neck warm with this foxy scarf: My Foxy Fraise. This scarf pattern by Sew Silly Lily is definitely cartoony enough to not look like you’re wearing a real fox, fun enough to give as a gift to a fox-loving child, and functional enough to keep you nice and toasty in the chilly weather!

You can make foxy garb to keep your whole body warm! Check out these adorable fox leg warmers/boot cuffs by Lakeside Loops! The pattern includes 5 sizes, from toddler to adult, so you should be all equipped to make these cute fox leg warmers for anyone you like! Also, bonus: racoon boot cuffs!!!

Also from Lakeside Loops, warming you right down to your toes, Bailey Slipper Boots! Ok, this pattern is only available in baby and kid sizes, so we’re going to have to find an adult size pattern for the fox-loving grown ups. But first, let’s talk about another adorable flexible pattern here, as this one also comes with instructions to make them look like pandas, bunnies, and bears. All in one pattern! So many fun options.

Well, you didn’t even have to go searching for yourself; I found you a pattern to make some adult-sized fox slippers from Mamachee. This pattern also comes in quite a few sizes, child size 8 all the way up to a women’s size 12. So, now you can be accessorized head to toe in fox gear! Yay foxes! So fun.

Now, if you can choose, grab a pattern for yourself or delay the decision and pin it for later (hint: if you download the Pinterest Save Button, you’ll get access to a whole bunch more images to save your favorite pattern ideas when you click on the browser button from one of my blog posts!).

Thanksgiving-Themed Patterns

Here in Canada, today is Thanksgiving. I’m sure our smart neighbours to the south have heard an inkling of this before, but it pretty much lines up with Columbus Day and we do pretty similar things as Americans, like eat turkey and pie with our family and friends. We usually have to go to work the next day, so we don’t make it a big shopping holiday and it doesn’t kick off our Christmas season, but otherwise, it’s a pretty similar holiday.

So I have a little round up of some Thanksgiving themed patterns, and my friends to the south can start working on some projects in time for their own holiday.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

First things first: turkey! In a pilgrim hat! Cute! Wouldn’t he make a fun first Thanksgiving gift for a new baby? Cute idea! Or he can sit on the kids’ table for decoration! Get the pattern for this adorable Thanksgiving Pilgrim Turkey Amigurumi Stuffie here.

Here’s another fun and cartoony turkey crochet pattern to make up for the holidays! Wouldn’t he make an impressive decoration to discuss over pie? What a fun character! While you’re there, you should definitely check out the other fun and cartoon-like amigurumi patterns in the IlDikko shop: So many fun patterns!

If you prefer a different kind of bird to be dressed up as a pilgrim, try your hand at these sweet little Pilgrim Owls by doriyumi.

Or maybe you’d rather wear a silly turkey hat for Thanksgiving? Maybe you have a bit of a goofball in your life that would just love to greet all your Thanksgiving guests wearing a crocheted cooked turkey beanie? You can totally make one of those. Hilarious.

If you prefer your turkey hats less cooked, you should check out this adorable turkey hat crochet pattern from IraRott Patterns.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without pumpkins! Check out these adorable hand-crocheted pumpkins with little cinnamon stick stems to add a homey cinnamon smell to your Thanksgiving table! These ones are made to order for you (super hand if you don’t have time to crochet!), but if you’d prefer to make your own, there are plenty of patterns for knit pumpkins here. And some more for crocheted pumpkins here.

I don’t know what it is about play food (especially if they have faces!), but I just think it’s the cutest thing! Maybe it takes me back to childhood and wanting to play kitchen and loving kindergarten where there was a play kitchen, but I couldn’t pass by this sweet pumpkin pie amigurumi pattern! So adorable!

How about decorating for Thanksgiving with this Oak Leaf and Acorn Garland? This little project could easily be carried in your crochet bag or purse for a travelling project and then hung up near the Thanksgiving table to add to the festive spirit!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope all my fellow Canadians are having a great holiday with their family. We are making turkey soup and relaxing today, as we had our big dinner yesterday. And to my American friends, you have plenty of time to make up some cute Thanksgiving Themed patterns before your big holiday, so get to work!

Perfect Plaid Patterns!

Are you still in love with plaid? It was super hot last year, but I’m still totally into it! And a bunch of great pattern designers have come up with super inventive and gorgeous plaid crochet patterns for us to make! Check out these great pattern finds!

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

This Plaid About You beanie featuring a sweet plaid heart is a great handmade gift idea for anyone you love, though, I think it might be better suited to the ladies. (I don’t know what it is with dudes having a problem with wearing hearts.) I love it though. Super adorable.

I guess a more manly option would be this cool Oso Plaid Beanie in the same Etsy shop: Evelyn & Peter. The plaid bear pattern is so cool. And can you believe these are crocheted? They look so good. I love this style of plaid! And the designs in the midst of them? Genius!

While we’re still talking about this designer, we can’t forget one of my favorite designs: The Flannel Forrest Beanie. I’m still just blown away that these hats are crocheted! Have you made one of these gorgeous hats? If you do, let me know! They’re on my list to make. Again with the lovely fur pompoms… so super trendy and adorable. I had to buy myself a bunch last winter. You can get them here if you’re looking for some. Make sure you get the remove-able ones (mine have snaps!) so you can wash your toque (that’s Canadian for winter hat).

You certainly can’t go wrong with checking out the plaid patterns by Whistle & Ivy. They’re super affordable and super adorable, all at the same time! I made this pattern last year and I must say, her instructions are great and the hat looks fantastic, just like these pictures!

And, while I think plaid can definitely be worn year round, but especially in the fall and winter. there’s something about buffalo plaid that’s just a little bit Christmas-y. So, you have plenty of time to crochet up a couple of these adorable Chalet Rustic Pillow Covers to throw on your couch for the upcoming winter season! The deer pattern is just impeccable! What a fun and festive idea!

Grab some supplies!

Pick up one of these great patterns and get crocheting today or pin it for later!

Adorable Halloween Amigurumi

Halloween is coming up, so there’s no better time to start making some adorable little not-so-frightening handmade stuffed toys! There are so many fun patterns to make! These would make great decor items to spruce up your house for the spooky season ahead.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

First off, check out this adorable bat pattern from the Etsy shop, Manuska. I love the lacy wings on this crocheted bat doll: such a unique feature! And she’s just so sweet worked up in the pink and grey with the little bow on her head! Not like a gross, dusty real bat at all!

How are these little guys for adorable and non-scary Halloween amigurumi? Have you ever seen such cute little dolls? What a fun trio of costumed dolls. And you can get all three patterns together here. So cute.

If little ghosts are more your thing, check out this adorable little ghost amigurumi pattern. So sweet! He looks like he would work up really quickly for a last minute project… or maybe some little treats for the special trick-or-treaters in your neighbourhood!

Not wanting to leave my knitters in the lurch, if you’re a knitter, you should also check out this fabulous and sweet knitting pattern for a pumpkin-costumed stuffed bunny! So sweet! (I think I had a costume just like this one when I was little!)

Here’s another sweet little adorably innocent-looking Halloween pumpkin: it’s already crocheted up for you so you don’t have to do any work, but I’m sure you could find another pattern and modify it to make up a similar one for yourself if that was more your thing.

Just because monsters are usually scary, doesn’t mean they have to be. While these crocheted monsters with an underbite definitely sport a grumpy expression, there’s no denying they’re absolutely loveable!

Another adorable monster!!! This little monster-costumed doll crochet pattern would make a sweet little handmade gift for any child! Does she remind you of the little girl in Monsters Inc? Maybe not scary… definitely cute.

This sweet little monster looks shy and scared himself: no way he’s scaring anyone else! This little stuffed toy would make a fetching addition to any nursery! Perfect unique handmade gift for a child!

If you like these patterns, you should go pick one up from Etsy. There are many more adorable Halloween amigurumi patterns that I didn’t have time to tell you about. Etsy also has plenty of other Halloween inspiration here.

Amazing Fairy House Tea Cosy

I made this Fairy House Tea Cosy! Isn’t it ridiculously adorable?! I can’t make awesome things at the same speed that I can find awesome things to make, so that’s why I mostly share other people’s patterns and projects here. But I’ve been working on this tea cosy for a while now and she’s finally done!

It was a very partial WIP (work in progress) for a long time until I finally picked up a normally shaped teapot so I could make it fit just right. That’s when the real work began!

I used this tutorial to make the tea cosy. It’s in Russian. And before you go thinking it’s super impressive that I can read Russian, I can’t. I can, however, limp my way through Google’s Russian to English translation, which is its own feat. (Computer translations don’t necessarily do the greatest job with technical language.) Although about half-way through I found a better English translation here.

Amazing Crocheted Fairy House Tea Cosy made by #craftevangelist #crochet #crafts #yarn #diy #fairyhouse #teacosyFortunately, I have a fair bit of experience reading crochet patterns, charts,  and making stuff up without a pattern, as well as a fascination with language and translation that keeps me going. Also, I love projects that look ridiculously involved and impressive. What can I say? I like to impress.

Amazing Crocheted Fairy House Tea Cosy made by #craftevangelist #crochet #crafts #yarn #diy #fairyhouse #teacosyThere are so many interesting details on this little fairy house tea cosy. And there’s so much room for creativity with all the embellishments!

I found this little teapot charm from Bohemian Findings, a little Etsy shop from PEI.

I found the little keyhole charm for the door from Michael’s.

I don’t remember where I got those cute little wooden buttons, but I found some similar wooden flower buttons here if you’re looking for some.

Amazing Crocheted Fairy House Tea Cosy made by #craftevangelist #crochet #crafts #yarn #diy #fairyhouse #teacosy

I got to practice my embroidery and I got to work with so many different yarns, mostly just yarns from my stash, though I did find an eight-pack of cotton mini yarns at Dollarama, which I used for the snail and for the blue flowers.

This tea cosy will be auctioned off at The King’s University‘s Harvest Banquet and Silent Auction this Saturday, so lucky you if you’ve got some tickets… and I’ll see you there!

You could ask me to make you one, but unless you’re willing to part with eleventy million dollars, I probably won’t do it (but Pleasant Things Shop has some beautiful similar tea cosies and she seems to be a lot faster than me at making these little beauties!) None of us have any idea how much time I’ve spent on this, but suffice it to say, you’re probably better off picking one off Etsy if you’d like to use it this decade (though, maybe I’d make one for my mom or my grandma if they asked 😉).

I’d love it if you’d share my project on Pinterest. I’m pretty proud of how it turned out and sharing helps my little blog!

Wow! What an adorable crocheted tea cosy! There's a link to a tutorial for how to make it and where to get all the little trinkets. Super cute project from #craftevangelist #teacosy #fairyhouse #crochet #pattern #diy #crafts #toadstools #yarn

Costume Hats

With the weather turning cooler and Halloween decorations beginning to show up in stores, I’ve been thinking about making fun hats for the kids, that also double as costumes. Where I live, it could easily be snowing or freezing on Halloween so incorporating a warm knit or crocheted hat into your costume is a smart move.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

Lael Viking Hat by Mamachee

This simple and adorable Lael Viking Hat crochet pattern looks like it would work up quickly for a last minute costume idea. It comes in all sizes, so it would be great to make for matching family costumes. You could easily crochet one up in a couple of hours, I think. Also, how cute is that kid?

Bronster & Missy Monster Crochet Hat Pattern

If monsters are more your jam for Halloween, this fun crochet pattern for Bronster and Missy Monster looks like an easy costume to throw together. You could pretty much just wear jeans and a t-shirt, throw this hat on and boom! you’ve got a costume! Simple for the person in your life who doesn’t want to put a lot of extra thought into a costume (I mean, someone’s got to make it, but…)

Krampus Hat by MoraleFiber

If you’re looking for a more involved and impressive hat costume, there’s this wild Krampus Hat crochet pattern. Perfect if you’re looking for something for a Where the Wild Things Are costume. Isn’t is amazing? What a fantastic-looking hat!

Minion Hat Crochet Pattern

Of course, there are still a lot of kids who want to dress up as their favorite characters from movies and tv shows and Minions from Despicable Me remains very popular still. Check out this simple, yet sweet little minion hat that would get any kid to wear a hat to school on a cold winter day! Maybe then my kids would stop losing them!

Kitten Hat Knitting Pattern

If you’re a knitter and not a crocheter, then there are even some adorable costume hats that you can make. This Kitten Hat Knitting Pattern is much more subtle than some of the other patterns, so it could easily be worn well past the Halloween season, but would also make another super simple last minute costume, if needed.

Foxy & Wolfie Hat Knitting Pattern

Foxes are super popular right now, too and this little Foxy & Wolfie Hat Knitting Pattern comes in three sizes: toddler, child and adult, so you could knit a whole family of foxy hats!

Puppy Dog Crochet Hat Pattern

The great thing about babies is you can dress them as silly as you like and they always look adorable! This sweet Puppy Dog Crochet Hat Pattern would make a seriously adorable photo prop as shown here or a super simple and warm costume accessory for Halloween.

Which adorable costume hat will you make for yourself or a loved one? One time I made this super sweet Larry Boy crocheted hat for my son. Of course, my kids never give me much time when they decide what they want to be for Halloween, so I was pretty sure I was madly crocheting this hat at the last minute. Turned out pretty good. I didn’t have a pattern then and I don’t have one now, but maybe if enough requests come in, then perhaps I will sit down and try to write one up.

What a cool Larry Boy Hat! I wish there was a pattern for this, but it'll just have to be cool by itself! Fun costume hats on this blog!

Baby Booties

I’ve got babies and boots on my mind these days because it snowed here (AND IT STAYED!) and there have been some new babies born recently (yay, babies!). So I’ve been perusing patterns for some great baby booties! Check out these great patterns I found and help me choose which ones I should make as shower gifts!

Dakota Baby Boots by TwoGirlsPatterns

This is a pattern I’m especially fond of! These Dakota Baby Boots look warm and cozy and super fashionable in that northern European rustic sort of way. TwoGirlsPatterns Etsy shop is full of great baby bootie patterns (as well as some other pretty sweet patterns as well!).

Baby Wrap Boot

But then I’m also torn because this Baby Wrap Boot pattern (also by TwoGirlsPatterns) is so adorable as well! Oh the buttons! I love buttons on booties! (Etsy is a great place to pick up some large wooden buttons, too! I’ve bought a bunch from this shop.) I mean, technically, you have to be careful that your baby is not left unattended with button booties like this (choking hazard!), but make sure the buttons are securely attached and if your baby is a Houdini about clothes, take them off before naps and stuff. But SO ADORABLE!!!

Baby Slouch Boot

TwoGirlsPatterns just has so many contenders for baby booties! It doesn’t matter what your style is, there’s a sweet baby slipper pattern for you. Look at these adorable Baby Slouch Boots! So sweet!

Furrylicious Loop Boot

Ok, I promise this post isn’t sponsored by TwoGirlsPatterns, but this adorable moccasin boot pattern is so fun!

So which ones do you think I should make? You can leave a comment here or go leave a comment on this pin on Pinterest.

Harry Potter Patterns

It’s hard to believe that the first Harry Potter books hit the shelves over 20 years ago! My kids are all Potterheads (well, the last one is just starting the books now, but he will be)! We love Harry Potter! There are so many great Harry Potter inspired craft projects to try. I’ve found some great ones for you today!

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

Look at this amazing knitting pattern for this sweet Harry Potter doll by TutosDelphine! This pattern is available in both English and French and if you’re not a knitter, this is definitely a beautiful-looking pattern that will inspire you to learn! Gorgeous!

First thing’s first, get yourself sorted into a house! You can crochet this fun sorting hat pattern and figure out if you’re a Hufflepuff, a Gryffindor, a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin. (My daughter and I are Ravenclaws.)

I was so pleased to find a crochet pattern to make a snowy owl like Hedwig! And it’s a vintage pattern, which I think is cool. Honestly, most vintage patterns look a little wonky, IMHO, but I think this pattern looks great and would be perfect to make the Potterhead in your life their very own owl!

If you’re looking to make a unique gift for the Harry Potter fan in your life, you can’t go wrong with this adorable, grumpy Mandrake amigurumi crochet pattern! Thankfully these stuffed toys will not scream like a “real” mandrake!

This fall season with back to school and Halloween approaching just get me in the mood for Harry Potter. I’m so pleased to have started reading the books again with my youngest son. It’s been a while for me! I hope you enjoy these Harry Potter inspired knitting and crochet patterns!

Gorgeous Fall Hats to Make

When the cooler weather abruptly ends the summer like it has for us this year, I start thinking about making hats! Even though I’ve made many hats for our family and other friends over the years, it’s always nice to have a new handmade toque (that’s Canadian for winter hat) to keep your head warm. Check out some of the gorgeous hat patterns I found for you to make this fall.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

This gorgeous crocheted racoon hat and cowl pattern was designed by The Hat and I, a designer whose patterns I can’t get enough of! (I’m sure you’ll find many of her patterns pinned in my Hats & Headbands board!) She has so many sweet and whimsical patterns of all kinds. You should really check out her shop; you’re sure to find something in there you’ll like! Also, what’s really fun about her shop is that if you check out enough of her patterns, you can watch her beautiful little model grow up!

I’ve had this sweet and simple little kitten or fox ears beanie (that’s American for toque) pattern pinned on my Pinterest boards for a while. I need to pick up some soft baby alpaca yarn in a lovely orange colour to knit this into a fox hat for my colleague’s new baby (a girl!). And I just love how this designer (Patternery) has styled these photos! So lush and cozy!

While I am completely not a lover of candy corn for eating, it is quite fun to look at and this candy corn hat knitting pattern is no exception. This chunky pattern looks quick and easy to knit up, for some mindless knitting while waiting to pick up kids from practices this fall. Hat patterns are great projects for tucking in your purse to work on when you have a few spare minutes. They make such lovely gifts and they’re easy to travel with. And if you’ve ever wondered how to make such perfectly puffy and round pompoms, there’s a tool for that! You can get one here; I love mine!

Knifty Knittings (the designer of the candy corn hat) has a whole bunch of gorgeous knitting patterns for you to try out. Since I often post a lot of crochet patterns, I thought I should help some of the knitters among us find some great knitting patterns!

Here is another sweet and whimsical hat pattern from Knifty Knittings: a simple little pumpkin hat pattern. While it says it’s for kids, the pattern does have instructions for all sizes up to adult. These simple patterns are perfect for new knitters, especially if you’re new to hat-making. If you’re a more advanced knitter, I’m sure you could come up with a similar pattern yourself and these make for some great ideas! However, even as a fairly accomplished knitter, I find the help of a pattern saves a lot of time and I usually end up with a better result. I’ve been trying to write my own pattern for a while, and let me tell you, pattern creation is not easy, so support your pattern designers and don’t begrudge them a few dollars for a pattern! It’s lots of work!

Last year, these slouchy & non-slouchy hats with fluffy fur pompoms were very popular and I think they will be just as popular this year. I made a bunch of pompom-topped hats last year for my kids and their friends (and myself) and we’re all still loving them. I love the diamond pattern in this Arabesque Hat Pattern by NinaBellaCo. Also, as a bonus (because a lot of designers just create patterns and not many of the finished works), if you’re not a knitter or you just don’t have time this fall, you can have one made for you!

I know I’ve shared this pattern before, but I love the design of The Teagan Beanie and it is a CROCHET pattern, which I think is amazing! This cosy hat pattern would make a great handmade gift to make!

This Hudson’s Bay Blanket-inspired toque is so adorable! This hat is already made up, but I’m sure if you can knit, you can probably figure it out, or check out this pattern. Something about those Hudson’s Bay stripes that just shout cosy and warm snuggly fall… or is that just for Canadians?

This Uptown Girl Cloche Crochet Pattern completely says back to boarding school to me! Can’t you just picture an adorable school uniform under that hat? The strap with the button closure makes a really polished finish.

So go forth and pick yourself up a pattern and some yarn and get making some hats! Pin it for later, so you can find it again!

See? Nothing to be afraid of here! You can make this adorable Mel the Monster and Friends Amigurumi without any fear! Or, if crocheting isn’t your jam but you still want one for yourself, DWcrochetattic will make one for you! You can go to the listing for a made to order monster from this pattern here.

Monsters definitely can’t be scary if they’re pink and have soothers, right? This sweet monster family amigurumi pattern would be a lovely welcome gift for the family of a new baby!

This is probably the most frightening of all the monster patterns because it is a SLUG, the most feared and disgusting of all garden creatures. Like, really, so gross. I hate these things in real life. It’s almost bearable in amigurumi format. At least it is purple and has multi-coloured spots on it. You can get the pattern here.

But maybe you’re thinking “Halloween is coming. I might need a monster for my pocket.” Or maybe you’re a super-awesome neighbour and don’t get a bajillion kids coming trick or treating at your house and you want to make candy-free,-but-almost-as-cool-as-candy-and-will-definitely-last-longer-than-candy-and-not-rot-your-teeth-or-spike-your-blood-sugar treats for all the kids in your neighbourhood. In that case, you could totally make some of these Franketstein Pocket Monsters

I need to make myself some new slippers, so I have been searching for a fun pattern to make. With Halloween approaching, perhaps these monster slippers would be appropriate. I know they would certainly surprise my kids, but I’m not sure they would cover my monstrous crocs (which is what Mr Evangelist prefers).

So, nothing to be afraid of here. Make yourself a monster to get into the spooky spirit and I think you’ll be making yourself a little stuffed friend. Get a pattern today or pin it for later!
