Easy Care Pets – Amigurumi style!!!

This year has been a year for getting pets. And that’s great, I think. I mean, if you like a pet and you’re going to take care of a pet and you can tolerate that pet smell and don’t mind cleaning up after and caring for another living being, absolutely, get a pet. That is just not my jam. I’m not saying I don’t think petting a dog or cat for a while isn’t nice and that it wouldn’t be nice to have a dog to lick up the spills, I just can’t get with the other stuff. There’s a lot of things I don’t like about them and they outweigh the things I do like. I also know the great responsibility that comes with pet ownership and it’s not a priority I want to make right now. So, it’s not that I’m not an animal lover, I just love them enough to know they shouldn’t live with me. So if you’re like me and you think that puppies are adorable and they’d be fun to cuddle every now and again, but you’re not ready for the commitment of a living pet, have I got the thing for you! Amigurumi Pets!!! Crochet your own pet with one of these great patterns and enjoy the cuddly softness without the vet bills and poop bags. Here’s a bunch of cute patterns for you to check out.

This Red Poodle Crochet Dog Pattern from Amber Craft Store is so realistic looking! It comes written in four languages (English, Dutch, German and Russian) and its genuine fur look comes from a thick fur yarn like Lionbrand Go For Faux Yarn. The pattern also includes instructions for how to make the nose from oven-baked clay! Incredible! It makes an 18″ tall dog when made as written, so it’s a perfect huggable size! If you’re looking for a gift for a kid who really wants a dog, but you’re not ready to commit yet, this would be a great handmade option!

While hedgehogs may be quite a bit less work as a pet, they’re still a living being, but if you’re not ready for that, Honey the Hedgehog is a great amigurumi hedgehog you can make and hold in the palm of your hand! Mocha Stitch has this adorable little pattern with textured popcorn stitch fur to make this sweet little hedgehog. The pattern is 7 pages long and has step-by-step, detailed photos to guide you along the way.

Maybe a Jack Russell puppy is more your style? Amber Craft Store also has this sweet little Jack Russell pup pattern for you! Again, such a lovely realistic-looking crocheted puppy. Such lovely detail on this adorable stuffed toy. The pattern is an easy-to-follow 12-page pattern with plenty of pictures and instructions for how to make a life-like dog face, how to paint the dog and how to make custom nose and eyes. This would be a great gift for someone who is missing a special dog in their life!

A Labrador puppy is super adorable, but they’re also a lot of work. This little Labrador Retriever Puppy Amigurumi Pattern from AmiAmor6 is a great alternative that is way less work! Ok, so maybe you have to make it, but once you’re done, there’s almost no work after that! This sweet pattern has 17 pages of detailed, step-by-step instructions and more than 30 colourful close-up photos and 6 videos to guide you in your making journey! Plenty of help to make this sweet little toy dog!

While a little less realistic looking, this Beagle Dog Amigurumi Crochet Pattern from Patch Cat Crafts makes a 13 cm (5.1″) tall puppy that will work up quickly… you probably even have time to whip one up before Christmas if you need a last-minute Christmas gift for a special someone. You can quickly download this 11-page pdf document from Etsy and get crocheting today! If you’re interested in amigurumi and you haven’t come across ChiquiPork patterns yet, you need to stop right now and check out their shop. This absolutely adorable Lolo the Dog Amigurumi Crochet Pattern has a Disney-like quality about it. It reminds me of the Dalmation puppies from 101 Dalmations. I love the spot detail around the eyes and big floppy ears. So sweet.

If you’re not a crocheter, but you want a custom-made amigurumi dog, check out Ema Plushies who will take a photo of your beloved dog and turn it into an adorable stuffed crocheted toy. Such a sweet gift idea for a friend or family member with a beloved dog, or for someone who is missing a beloved dog.

While there is no shortage of cat amigurumi patterns available on Etsy, there are surprisingly few realistic-looking patterns. This Crochet Cat Pattern from Crochet by Natalia has a brushed yarn fur that adds a realistic feel to this super sweet little kitty. Something about babies is incredibly adorable: baby humans, baby dogs, baby cats. Super cute. Getting a live kitten means you’ll eventually have a cat, but making a kitty stuffy means you’ll always have a super-cute kitten. And no litter to clean (or allergies to deal with in our case)!

While less realistic, this sleepy cat crochet pattern from Firefly Crochets is an easy striped tabby amigurumi cat pattern that is sure to delight any cat-lover. Plus, he is sleeping, which makes it remarkably realistic (haha!). This easy pattern works up quickly and uses worsted weight yarn, which means you probably already have materials on hand, so you can download this pattern, sit down, and get crocheting!

Just getting started and don’t have a stash of worsted weight yarn? Check out KnitPicks selection of affordable worsted weight yarns.

Ok, while not exactly a pet (even here in Canada), I couldn’t ignore this adorable Paddy the Irish Elk Amigurumi Crochet pattern from The Little Hook Crochet! Just so so sweet and cuddly, this amigurumi would make such a lovely gift! He might get mistaken for a moose, but you can always make the correction or choose not to. You’d have to get right to work today to get him finished in time for Christmas, but wouldn’t he make just the most adorable Christmas gift for a special someone?

I hope you enjoyed this collection of easy-care pet ideas to make. Crocheted pets are the perfect pets, in my opinion! Easy care, super sweet and loveable and truly a labour of love!
