Ten Terrific Tee Shirts to Knit and Crochet

In my last post, I shared that I am working on a cardigan for my husband. I have begun and it is going fairly well. I think I need to rip out the work I did today though, because I didn’t do my math ahead of time, which was kinda dumb. Oh well, live and learn. This project requires a fair bit of attention because I am knitting without a pattern, so I can’t work on it whenever I want to knit, like when we watch TV or when I go to a knitting group. So I am currently working on a project for me, my Toronto Tee, as I like to call it, because I bought the yarn for it when we were in Toronto last summer. The pattern I am using is called Green Tee by Lone Kjeldsen and I’m probably more than halfway done right now. I am using Ella Rae Eco Organic Cotton yarn in the colourway Atlantis that I bought from Yarns Untangled. There were many other great t-shirt options to choose from, so I’ve collected some here, so you can find something lightweight and cute to make for yourself this spring!

This super basic knit tee pattern is the Perfect T-Shirt Knitting Pattern from
OriginallyLovely. Classic and simple, this tee will take you from the office to the picnic, looking cool and chic the whole time. An added bonus of a simple tee like this one: you could embellish it with embroidery! I’m seriously considering that for my Toronto Tee!

The Pyramid Tee from MinimiKnitDesign is a cropped, beginner-friendly, top-down knit tee sweater pattern, with an easily adjustable length. So if you prefer a longer tee or a cropped tee, this pattern will accommodate different lengths of both the body and the sleeves. That’s the best thing about knitting your own clothes! Completely customizable!

The Easy Summer Top Tee Pattern from VintagePatternFaves is another great beginner-friendly knit tee pattern to choose from. It’s always nice to be able to find a staple pattern that you can knit yourself. This is another great option if you wanted to embellish it with embroidery. If you want to learn how to embellish your knits, my friend Alex has a great book out: The Embroidered Closet. It has great patterns and helpful hints for embroidering on clothes!

The Frigga V-Neck Tee from OenlingKnit is a pretty oversized fit, v-neck tee knitting pattern with some seed stitch at the side (Can you see that poking out on the left?), adding a bit of subtle interest to the pattern.

Wondering what knitting needles I use? KnitPicks Interchangeables are my go to needles!

The Pocketful of Stitches Tee by Knitatude is another beginner-friendly, top-down, raglan t-shirt knitting pattern. Includes a cute little pocket, which is a fun embellishment (and a great place to add some embroidery?!). And because it is top-down, it makes the length of both the body and the sleeves easily customizeable to your preference!

Ok, crocheters, I have not abandoned you for this pattern round up! There are crocheted tees too! If you’ve been watching Taylor Swift with her various knit and crocheted tees, tanks and bralettes, you will love some of the great options I have for you here! The Maria Top Crochet Pattern from OriginallyLovely is a sweet “granny stitch” crocheted tee that will have everyone asking where you got it and if you can make one for them. Absolutely adorable.

The Box Top Crochet Pattern from Woods and Wool Shop is a modern, boxy, effortless tee with lacy stripes that you can wear over jeans or a dress. The design is constructed with two simple panels that you can easily adjust the lenth for your perfect fit.

The Positano Tee Pattern from HopefulHoneyDesign has a delicate and loose-fitting style. It makes a great beach cover up top. It is available for free on her blog as well, but I love being able to have a pattern to print and follow along.

The Loopy Breeze Tee by LoopyHandmadeStudio is simple, stylish, airy, and really versatile. You can wear it with shorts, leggings or jeans… perfect any time of year.

I wanted to share the Ashley T-Shirt Crochet Pattern from i love tinderbox because it is a crocheted t-shirt pattern that you can wear without a tank or undershirt. I tend to dress pretty modestly, so while a crop top usually isn’t my go-to style, I did want to show a crocheted t-shirt that isn’t “hole-y.” Also, as with so many of the t-shirt patterns I’ve shared here today, the length is also completely customizable. You can easily make a full-lenth t-shirt from this cute pattern. Courtney has a bunch of other crocheted garment patterns that can also be worn on their own, including dresses, overalls, lounge pants, and sweaters. She also makes all her patterns size-inclusive up to 5XL.

I hope you found a tshirt to knit or crochet for yourself or someone you love here today. Go grab the pattern and get making! Or pin it for later!
