This might just be my after Christmas project for me! Check out this beautiful collection of handmade Christmas wall hangings and tell me which one you like!

This Crochet Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Pattern from Little Light Design measures 11 inches wide by 28 inches tall, which just might be the perfect size for the spot at my front door. It uses medium (worsted, or a 4) weight yarn and 5.00 mm crochet hook and is an intermediate level crochet pattern. You’ll need a wooden dowel as well, which you can find for a good price here on Amazon.

Little Light Design has a bunch of wall hanging crochet patterns, but I also love the simple beauty of this Noel Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern. This one works up to be about 17 x 25 inches, so a little too wide for the space at the front entrance, but possible the right size for the spot where my regular crochet wall hanging is (that one was made with this pattern). Bonus: I can totally make it whatever colour I want so I can make it match my living room! #makerlife

Here is another small and minimalist wall hanging that could fill that spot at my front entrance. This Minimalist Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Seacliffe Cottage measures approximately 11.5 x 10 inches, excluding the fringe and would work up super quickly! Perfect for a last-minute, but very thoughtful handmade Christmas gift!

Need a set of crochet hooks? This Crochet Hook Set has everything you need to get started with crochet.

Little Light Design has yet another bobbly crochet Christmas wall hanging with this Snowflake Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern. I love the one-colour simplicity of this wall hanging: it would coordinate with any decor! A little larger, this size of this wall hanging is approximately 16.5 inches wide and 32.5 inches long. The skill level on this pattern is easy, but basic crochet skills and techniques are needed.

If you love those bobble stiches, “A Very Bobble Wall Hanging” Crochet Pattern from Love and Stitch Designs is the pattern for you! The relief design on this wall hanging stands out and has a beautiful texture to enjoy. Made with just one colour of worsted weight yarn and a 5.00 mm crochet hook, it works up quickly. Give yourself a few days though, as it measures 16 inches wide by 25.5 inches long.

It really is all about the bobble, eh? If you want to talk quick projects, this macrame-inspired Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Fresh Knack made with super bulky yarn (size 7), here shown made with Bernat Home Decor (one of my favourites… AND I have some of this in my stash right now!!! Stash project! Wahoo!) This one would whip up so quickly, you could probably make it in a short evening of crocheting!

Love and Stitch Designs coming in with this gorgeous Plaid Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern! I love how plaid can get worked up so beautifully in crochet! Such a fun colourwork technique! It’s amazing how three colours of yarn that you wouldn’t necessarily would work together magically do when they are worked up in a plaid pattern!

Fresh Knack has another macrame-inspired Modern Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern for you to check out. When I was looking for wall hanging patterns, almost all of them were rectangular-shaped, which is cool, but this one stood out because it has that macrame-style shape. Such a fun and simple design! I love the incorporation of multiple dowels!

Ok, I went looking for some knitting patterns for Christmas wall hangings and seriously, it just came up with more crochet wall hangings! And hey, I’m not about it, because I found this super cute Christmas Gonk Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Stitches in Time Co UK. How adorable is this little gnome? Such a sweet pattern! This guy would take a little longer than the earlier patterns I’ve shared since it’s made with DK (3) weight yarn.

Ok, here’s another really adorable, but a little more involved Christmas Deer Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern by Chicaoutlet. This makes a lovely little wall hanging for a home with kids around. Or for someone who loves whimsical things (why are they always for kids? boo).

This whimsical Snowman Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Stitch by Fay is a delightful little winter-themed wall hanging made with DK weight yarn, but measuring only 9.5 inches by 7.5 inches (excluding hanging loops and fringe), so it would work up pretty quickly. Of course, you could use a heavier weight yarn , like a worsted or a bulky weight and a larger hook, and make a larger, chunkier wall hanging to fill a larger space. That’s the beauty of making it yourself: customization!!!

I hope you enjoyed this collection of wall hanging crochet patterns. Grab one today and make a quick gift or pin it for later for a great winter break project!

12 Classic Festive Knit and Crochet Stocking Patterns

It’s a great year to make your own stockings! Even if it’s late and you don’t think you’ll get them all done before Christmas, don’t fret! Do what you were going to do anyways and then consider yourself ahead for next year, not behind for this year! That’s what I did a few years ago: after Christmas, I sat down and knitted for 5 days straight to make our family stockings and then they hung around empty for another week before I put all the decorations… but then I was all ready for next year! Handmade stockings are a beautiful way to add homey-ness to your Christmas decor, so I’ve collected a beautiful bundle of knit and crochet stockings that can stretch to fit whatever loot Santa has for your loved ones!

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

First up: the knits! I often start with crochet, so I thought I would shake things up a big. And one of the things I prefer about knit stockings here is the closeness of the stitches, so things don’t get caught on the holes when Santa is stuffing them full of goodies. This fun cable-knit chunky Magnolia Stocking Knitting Pattern by White Oak Knits is a pattern that is sure to hold your interest and work up quickly since it is knit with super bulky yarn. You just might have enough time before Christmas Eve to make a couple of these for special folks in your life!

I love the vintage vibe of this Holly Stocking Knitting Pattern from Annies Woolens. Such a classic Christmas look for homey ski-lodge-inspired winter decor. If you’ve been wanting to explore colour work, you’ll love this pattern because of the ease working in the round. This pattern also includes an alphabet chart so you can personalize your stockings!

Vintage patterns are often a super good deal and this Vintage Knit Stocking Patterns from CooloRoonie is no exception. At under $2, you can make your own vintage vibe stockings from a genuine vintage pattern!

The Jumbo Knitted Stocking Pattern from Prinku is sure to excite your favourite little one with the dreams of no limits for what can fit in their stocking. This simply stockinette knit jumbo stocking will work up quickly with a super bulky yarn; it’s the perfect mindless pattern for the intermediate knitter, but an eager beginner can handle the easy to follow step by step photos and instructions.

Another fun vintage knit stocking pattern for you! How fun are these Folk Patterned Vintage Christmas Stocking Knitting Patterns from BC Funk Factory? These stockings work up to be about 28 inches long and includes instructions for making both the Scandinavian Motifs, trees, and snowflakes. This is an advanced knitting pattern, so you might want to save this project for the lazy days following Christmas, but you will be so proud of yourself when you’ve finished these stunning vintage stockings!

I love Christmas gnomes! They’re so adorable and still so trendy! Check out this fun Gnome Christmas Stocking Knitting Pattern from Kathleens Keepsakes! If knitting in the round isn’t your thing, you can make this pattern, as it’s knit flat and sewn up afterwards.

One final knitting pattern. This Old Fashioned Christmas Stocking Knitting Pattern from Aunt Janets Designs is a cable-knit, timeless stocking that will suit any Christmas decor. This pattern is a great one to use up your worsted weight stash and it is knit in the round for a quick knit project! I love knitting in the round on circular needles. If you’re looking for your own set of circular needles, I highly recommend a set of interchangeable needles from KnitPicks. These are what I use and I love the versatility of circular needles. I use them for almost every knitting project, even if it is knit flat. It’s just so easy to keep track of one circular needle instead of worrying about losing one needle! (They also have a wide variety of affordable yarn!)

Ok, now on to the crochet patterns! There are plenty of great crochet stocking patterns, like this Crafty Boho Stocking Crochet Pattern from A Crafty Concept. I love the bobbles and the faux fur topper and pompom! So much fuzzy and festive texture!

I’m sure you knew you could make cables with crochet, but if you didn’t have an idea of where you could us it, this Big Bold Cabled Stocking Crochet Pattern from A Crocheted Simplicity is a great pattern to put it into practice. Also I love those pompoms! Maybe I need to make new stockings with pompoms! (I don’t know: I think my kids are getting to be a little attached to the stockings they have, though!)

Or how about this fun Buffalo Plaid Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern also from A Crocheted Simplicity?! Don’t you just love the texture of the lemon peel stitch and the fun buffalo plaid? Such a classic and if you’ve incorporated some plaid into your decor, or if you’re trying to, this is a great way to do it. I love this black and white and grey option because it would be so easy to work into our decor…. Hmmmm… maybe plaid stockings. (So many ideas!)

This darling Winter Braid Stocking Crochet Pattern from Sheepish Stitches has a great horizontal braid pattern worked through it for a lovely subtle texture that is warm and inviting. Another fantastic option!

I love the way this O Christmas Tree Crocheted Stocking Pattern from A Crocheted Simplicity works the textured puffy stitches into a Christmas tree design element for this stocking. This pattern uses easy-to-find worsted weight yarn, so you might be able to pull something great out of your stash!

I hope you found some inspiration for the stockings you’re going to make for your family or another family you care about. It’s so worth it to learn to knit or crochet to make your own stockings because they tend to be quite time-consuming. I think of it as the opportunity to think and pray for my recipient, which is one of the invaluable things about handmade. So, go grab yourself one of these patterns and some yarn and get making. Or pin it for later so you can find it when you’re ready!

How cute is this Penguin Crochet Pattern from Cute Toys By Tatiana in his winter cap and scarf? The accessories on this adorable little penguin are actually knit, so this is a great opportunity for those of us who can do both of these crafts to show off our skills! There’s no shame in not knitting a scarf, though. I’m sure if you can follow this pattern, you can figure out how to make a crocheted hat that would be suitable for your little penguin!

This Snowman and Red Nosed Fawn Crochet Pattern from BVoe668 reminds me of the 1964 stop motion film Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, which I loved as a kid. The snowman isn’t quite right for the Burle Ives character, but that reindeer is pretty close. Such an adorable little crochet pattern to make for your holiday display. I love having Christmas decorations that the kids can touch and play with instead of everything being fussy and hands-off. This is a great way to invite littles into the cheer of the Christmas season!

What a delightful Cuddle-Sized Christmas Tree Amigurumi Pattern from Storyland Amis! This is the perfect little tree to decorate a child’s bedroom, or to satisfy a particularly tree-loving kid’s desire for a Christmas tree!

I just had to share this super cuddly Santa Crochet Pattern from Crochet Wonders Design! This Santa reminds me of the Santa in the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer holiday special as well, with his modern, stylized moustache and beard. He’s made with velour blanket yarn, so it makes the cuddliest stuffed toy! So soft!

Christmas calls for all kinds of elves and gnomes, so if you want to make yourself an adorable bearded gnome for your Christmas decor, try this Amigurumi Christmas Gnome Crochet Pattern from Happy Dolls Hand Made. The pattern includes both the large and the small gnome and they make the perfect whimsical holiday decor! And bonus: if you have kids or grandkids: unbreakable!

This Crochet Christmas Elves Pattern from R Nata is just the thing to bring some Christmas cheer and whimsy! My dear knitter friends, there just aren’t as many cute knitting patterns out there when it comes to amigurumi. Crochet just works better for these little characters! Amigurumi for Christmas

I just love amigurumi! According to Wikipedia: Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. The word is a portmanteau of the Japanese words ami, meaning “crocheted or knitted”, and nuigurumi, meaning “stuffed doll”. And this time of year is the perfect time to make some. Amigurumi is perfect for Christmas, as gifts for children, as decorations for your home or tree, as gifts for co-workers. They work up pretty quickly and are really fun to make; you can also use up some of your odds and ends of yarn since they’re usually pretty small and you can customise their colours to whatever you have on hand! So many people are delighted by amigurumi, it makes the perfect whimsical addition to this festive season! Check out these adorable stuffed crocheted creatures and pick out a pattern to start working on today!

How about this festive Little Christmas Deer Crochet Pattern? One pattern gives you all the instructions you need to make these little amigurumi deer dolls, with plenty of high-quality photos to walk you through it. Depending on the size of yarn you use, these little guys could be toys for kids or decorations for your tree!

How adorable are these gingerbread people? Again, here’s another pattern with instructions to make both tops: a Gingerbread Man and Girl Couple Amigurumi Pattern. How much fun would a set of these be for a newlywed couple for their first Christmas? They’re so sweet with all their decoration details!

I’m a sucker for gnomes! I love their big furry beards and festive hats on their squat, rotund bodies. Herbert the Christmas Gnome Amigurumi Pattern would make a great addition to my mantle (which is frankly looking a little sad this year… see my Instagram post about it). But I think this guy would spruce it right up!

Who can resist an adorable cartoon-ish Mr Santa Crochet Pattern? His cloud-like beard and little button eyes just draw you in. My kids were never really enamoured with Santa, and we never really forced them to sit on Santa’s knee because they always looked terrified of him. Besides, who wants to stand in line with kids for 20 minutes to traumatize your kids for an awful over-priced picture? My kids were slightly intrigued by the idea of the right jolly old elf, so I slightly regret not snapping a photo of them looking onto the spectacle of Santa visiting from a distance. I’m sure they would have been much more interested in a stuffed version of Santa like this cute little amigurumi doll.

Mr Pinny Crochet Amigurumi Pattern is a super cute, sweater-clad penguin doll ready to grace your Christmas tree with his chipper little face! It’s time for all the cold-weather creatures to come out and adorn our homes with their cuteness! I don’t know, though; do you think this little guy could use a hat? Or a scarf? He looks a little chilly. I think I’d make him a hat, too.

Of course, you don’t need to make Christmas themed Amigurumi to give out as a gift! You can make a stuffed toy that can be enjoyed year-round, like this Milo the Hipster Cat Amigurumi Pattern. What kid doesn’t want a stuffed cat in a hoodie? My kids love this kind of stuff and I’m sure yours would too!

Or if you have a princess-lover on your hands, this Princess Amigurumi Crochet Pattern Bundle would give you all the instructions you need to make a whole collection of princesses! These dolls are so adorable; how much more special will one of these dolls be to the recipient when they know it was made by your loving hands? That’s the beauty of handmade; so much pride involved in making and so much love felt in giving and receiving!

If you’re new to amigurumi, you could try something a little simpler, like this Crochet Star Amigurumi Pattern. Festive for the holiday season, but suitable to be displayed year-round. Make one with a thick, bulky yarn and you’d have a super fun pillow for a teen. It gets harder and harder to come up with good fun handmade gift ideas for teens as they get older. This would be a suitable option for an older kid and would make a fun addition to their bed.

Do you want a hippopotamus for Christmas? You can make one with this Crochet Hippo Amigurumi Pattern! This cuddly hippo would double as a super fun and functional pillow. Made with a big enough yarn, this friendly character would crochet up quickly and make a really snuggly stuffed friend for any kid. All this hippo needs is a cute little bow and to be displayed under the tree!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little introduction to various amigurumi characters you could make this Christmas. You’ve still got some time, so go pick up a pattern and get to work! What better things do you have to do as the weather turns colder than sit cosied up at home with your crocheting? Grab a pattern or pin it for later!

Crochet for Christmas

Are you looking for some ideas for some handmade gifts you can make for Christmas this year? If you can crochet, there are a myriad of ideas out there, absolutely worth your time to make! It’s so touching to receive a handmade gift, one that you know a lot of thought and time has gone into. It’s such a neat experience for me to be able to make handmade gifts for my family and friends… I think about them as I make their gift, so there’s the extra special gift of having spent hours and hours (and hours and hours) thinking about the recipient that is built into this gift of love!

So, if you want to give that kind of love this gift-giving season, you’ve still got plenty of time to crochet something amazing. And I have got some great crochet patterns for you!

A crocheted hat is a practical and lovely gift. This Brisk Beanie Crochet Pattern from captain of the hooks is trendy with its multiple textures and crochets up quickly with a 5 mm crochet hook. This is the kind of gift you can whip up in a couple of hours!

Isn’t this sweet vertical-striped Borealis Hat Crochet Pattern adorable? I love the rainbow yarn used in this example to make a super fun and brightly coloured hat for a child, or anyone who loves a pop of colour!

If you’re looking for something a little more Christmassy to make as a gift this season, check out this Vintage Crochet Granny Square Tree Skirt Pattern from Heirloom Knit Patterns. Because it’s a vintage pattern, you can get the .pdf for just a couple bucks! And you can choose the colours that suit your recipients (or your own… ;)) to make a perfectly customized tree skirt!

If granny squares aren’t your thing, this Crocheted Nativity Tree Skirt Pattern might be more your speed. I love the simplicity of the two colours and the multiple panels with different scenes.

I also love this Rustic Wonderland Christmas Tree Skirt Crochet Pattern with a chunky yarn and fantastic wooden buttons, this would be perfect for a farmhouse Christmas style.

Who doesn’t love snowmen? These Little Snowman Crocheted Christmas Ornaments would make perfect co-worker gifts! I love the embroidered snowflakes on the hat and scarf and the little stick arms on the other snowman are classic!

Perhaps you’d rather make a Snowman Christmas Ball Ornament; this little crochet pattern would also make a great gift for co-workers. I think they would also go well at craft sales if you’re the kind of person who makes for craft sales. Simple and quick, these would probably come together in a couple of hours, too.

Update: unfortunately, this exact pattern is not available any longer, but check out this cute Snowman Ornament Crochet Pattern as an alternative.

For a more traditional Christmas Ball Ornament Crochet Pattern, there’s this super colourful option, which I love and also think would come together quickly! How fun would a bunch of these be on a colourful tree? oOooOhh or they’d be even more perfect at a daycare or pre-school!? When I was a kid, we had glass ball ornaments, which could (and did!) break. Since I’ve had kids, I’ve only bought plastic ornaments so I wouldn’t have to worry about breakage; I could let my kids decorate and touch the tree without being a ball of worry. These would totally work to let kids decorate with!

While we’re in this colourful mood, you should also check out these cute Colourful Little Christmas Trees. I love the fun stripes and the beads that add so much character to these sweet little decorations. They would go along perfectly with those snowmen ball ornaments at your craft sale!

I’m also a big fan of these stockings! You can make this Mini Stocking Crochet Pattern into a bunting like these, with multiple colours, stripes, and follow the rainbow! What a fun decoration! OoooOooh… you could make 25 of them for an advent calendar bunting!

Here’s another great pattern to turn into a great garland: this Christmas Lights Crochet Pattern can be made into individual little ornaments or strung together for an adorable bunting! How fun are these?!

So, you see? With all these quick projects you could make in time for the holidays, you can really give a handmade gift to just about anyone you care about! Time to pull out that yarn and the hook, pick up a pattern and get to work! Or Pin it for later!

Handmade Holiday Gifts

It’s go time! November always takes me by surprise. Before November, if I had started thinking about Christmas gifts or making anything, I was so super early and ahead of the game. Once November hits, I always feel behind. It’s stupid, really. But the maker mom in me wants to handmake something for everyone. Besides making everyone some coasters or ornaments, it just isn’t practical to start in November. But just because you can’t make something elaborate for everyone, doesn’t mean that you can’t make something elaborate for someone special. So, I’ve rounded up a group of patterns to make for some beautiful handmade holiday gifts! Check them out and get to work!

Or… here’s the other trick, if you’re starting in November, you can still get a handmade gift made for you! There are so many makers who make a gorgeous handmade gift for you, wrap it beautifully and ship it to you in time for Christmas. Just take note of any special order-by dates, so you can be sure to get what you want in time for your gift-giving!

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

Stuffed toys are always a great gift idea for children! Even adults find them hard to resist! This sweet Friendy Wendy the Lamb crochet pattern would make a lovely handmade gift!

The beauty of holiday time is that you can decorate with stuffed toys! When else can you display stuffed toys if you’re not a kid (or my mother-in-law in her spare bedrooms)? You can make this Kevin the Snowman Amigurumi Pattern and put him on your mantle or give him as a loveable Christmas toy!

These Christmas Minis set of crochet toy patterns are another opportunity to make and display some cute little amigurumi toys for the holidays! If you attached some string to these little guys, they would make great hanging ornaments or gift toppers!

My little Oak hubby crochet toy pattern is a sweet little amigurumi toy pattern to make as a lovey for a child. What an adorable earthy little doll! He looks perfectly suited for the woodsy outdoors.

Maybe the hype of Frozne is over now, but I know there are still some die-hard fans out there and kids still love Olaf. If you have a fan in your life, you could make one of these detachable Olaf Snowman crochet patterns. How much fun is it to have an interactive handmade toy to play with!?

Play food is such a fun handmade gift! This amigurumi cup of hot cocoa is a cute and quick-to-make little pattern that will delight any recipient! How much fun would it be to put out an amigurumi cup of cocoa and cookies for Santa this year?

For an older child or teen, this Crochet Pillow Lips Amigurumi Pattern would make a great throw pillow for their bed. Made with fuzzy blanket yarn, this little pillow would be so cozy to snuggle up to!

For the knitters in the group looking to make a garment, the Lodgepole Cowl knitting pattern is a lovely colour-work knitting pattern, made with just two colours. Cowls make great handmade gifts because you don’t need to have someone’s exact measurements to make a garment that is going to fit and they knit up rather quickly, so you can make lots for all your friends!

If you’ve got a little more time to craft this year, you could make up one of these Winter Star Crochet Blanket Patterns and have a fabulous afghan to enjoy or delight someone with a gorgeous handmade gift!

Or if winter stars are not your thing, check out this Midnight Diamond Blanket Crochet Pattern. I love the pattern on this; it almost looks like a Scandinavian rug! I wonder if I could make it with t-shirt yarn and make a fun rug?

So, if you’re not a maker, or you are and you just don’t have time to make one of these lovely patterns, there are still makers out there who have time to make a great gift for you in time for the holidays. Like this incredible Crocheted fairy house teapot cosy from Pleasant Things Store. Remember last year when I made my teapot cosy for the silent auction? Well, this maker makes them, too! And she is far more prolific than I am! I tell ya, for all the work that goes into a piece of art like this, her prices are a good deal!

Or maybe you would prefer to give a Luxury Sparrow Beanie made by my friend Jasmine at KichekoDesigns with hand-dyed superwash Merino wool. I love the giant faux fur poms; they’re still so trendy and fun. This gorgeous hat would be loved by any recipient! If you want to make your own, you can grab the pattern from HaileyBailey.

Do you have a new baby coming into the family soon? Jasmine would also make you a Little Ombre Blanket made with naturally soft merino. Perfect baby stroller blanket! It’s such a delight to receive a handmade gift, so you can be sure to let your recipient know that this blanket was handmade in Canada by a delightful woman in Revelstoke, BC!

Pre-order your Knit Hat with Faux Fur Pom from a fellow Edmonton maker, GingerfullyCozy. This mustard yellow is such a great colour this fall; I’m so glad it’s still on-trend: it’s one of my favourite colours!

For a chunky option, GingerfullyCozy also has this cute textured knit hat with faux fur pom. The grey is so classic and goes with everything!

So, whether you’re kicking your making into high-gear this month or organizing yourself for the gift-giving season ahead, you’ve got a bunch of great options to have a lovely handmade holiday! I’m always so pleased to push handmade on people; it’s a far superior option in so many ways. If you make it yourself, you can save some money by just buying some yarn that’s within your budget and add so much value with some of your time. It makes such a special gift for the recipient because of your input of time and thought. If you buy from an independent maker, you’re usually getting a super great deal and you’re directly supporting creative handiwork! We shouldn’t lose these skills! We need to value them and we need to value the time that makers spend making and coming up with beautiful patterns for the rest of us! So, what are you waiting for? Go get one of these patterns or put your order in for a handmade item by a talented maker! Pin this for later so you can find it next time you’re looking for it.

Quick Handmade Gifts

Super fast handmade gifts to knit and crochet! Pick up a pattern and get to work today and you can have beautiful handmade gifts to give!

Did you leave making your handmade gifts until December? I may or may not have done this, intending every year to start earlier, but then getting easily distracted and finding the fall having slipped by without my having made a bunch of handmade gifts. My family may be getting used to receiving handmade “gift cards” of promises of handmade goods for the future. I usually have much more time between Christmas and New Years to knit and crochet, so I sit and knit/crochet and drink coffee with Baileys. But, if you have some time in the next couple weeks, these little projects will work up quickly and you can still give your loved ones thoughtful handmade gifts in time for Christmas.
