Unwinding with Cable Knit & Crochet Patterns

The winter hat is my go-to project for new ideas and stitches. It’s a great way to learn a new stitch because beanies are small projects that work up quickly, so the reward of accomplishment is more immediate than when working on a larger project. Crochet Patterns are Among Us

If you have kids that are the same age as my kids (10-15), you have heard of Among Us. A few weeks ago, we got Mr Evangelist a new phone and our youngest got a hand-me-down phone that was new enough to be able to download Among Us and he was pretty happy about that. Conversations overheard with the three of them talking about it is a little weird since they’re talking about being the imposter and killing people. … uh yeah, this is fine, right? Anyway, they’re all the rage right now and I think every kid is going to want their own Among Us character for Christmas. So I collected some Among Us inspired crochet patterns for you here to make your own fun gifts for some kids that you love.

So, this is the basic character, a crewmate… and a dead crewmate. Let’s not dwell too much on their anatomy, shall we? I appreciate it, but it is a short season here in Edmonton and I prefer the heat and the laziness of summer days. I can definitely appreciate some warm and cozy accessories to warm up with. So I pulled out my own pumpkins that I made last year and adorned the mantel with them, and of course, added a new one to their ranks. Men’s Hat Patterns

A lot of knitters and crocheters are people who have men in their lives that they love to make things for. But many of us are attracted to fun pompoms, complicated stitch patterns, and slouchy hats that the dudes in our lives would just not be into. And I’m guilty of this, too. He’s already got a pretty big head, so he doesn’t want to add the bulk of a thick and chunky hat to it. Also, while he’s trying to stay warm, sometimes those chunky hats make him too hot. He’s already pretty hot (woot woot!) so we don’t want to overdo it. 😉 The decreases on this knit hat pattern make a lovely swirled crown that sits nice and flat on the head. Warm Winter Weather Wear

Well, the winter weather has arrived, at least where I live. It’s not too bad just yet, so don’t mistake my announcement for complaining. But it is definitely time to break out the knit and crochet accessories to keep ears, necks, heads and hands warm this season. If you’re looking for a pattern to make for a gift to give this season or to keep yourself warm this winter, I’ve got a great collection of fashionable knit and crochet accessory patterns for you!

First off, these twisted ear warmers are all the rage this year. Great for keeping your ears warm while not messing up your top knot or ponytail. The beauty of these little projects is that they only take a couple of hours and a partial skein of yarn. They make great stash-busting projects!

Chunky Crocheted Hats

Patterns to Warm Up With

Are you experiencing a polar vortex where you are? It’s still very cold here. I mean, it’s Canada. It’s the middle of winter, but still. I’m done with this weather. But it, apparently, is not done with us. Fortunately, I have a degree in yarn crafts, with an internet minor. So, we can solve this. Even if I had a degree in meteorology, I wouldn’t be able to change the weather, but with my fictitious degree in yarn crafts, I can change how I (and others) experience it. #takethatscience

First off, I’d like to introduce you to The Frost Beanie, designed by my friend Alicia from Lee & Evelyn (you’re my friend now, Alicia). I knit these beauties up in The Wool by We Are Knitters, but I would recommend experimenting with the more fitted versions she suggests. The thickness of the The Wool just doesn’t have the drape that other yarns do, but it’s sooo lovely and soft and the colours are to die for!

As it turns out, there are other results on Etsy when you search “Frost Beanie” including this sweet crochet pattern by Jennifer White Designs. These textured crochet patterns (especially with buttons) are so adorable and trendy. Pick one up and get crocheting: they’re so cute!

Of course, if it’s cold outside, you’re going to need something to keep your fingers warm and these Frost Lined Mittens are just the thing. The outer mitten is worked first, then stitches are picked up around the inside of the cuff and the lining is worked in the opposite direction. Once completed, the lining is tucked into the outer mitten. Looks like the perfect pattern to keep warm this polar vortex season.

Sometimes it’s a bit frosty in my office. They’ve tried to tell me it’s not air conditioning, but it’s cold air blowing out of the same vent that the air conditioning comes out of, so… it doesn’t much matter to me.
