Crochet Them All: Pokemon! Stuffies to Make

Ok, so for me, this is panic time. It always seems like there’s plenty of time before Christmas until suddenly there’s not and I have no good ideas and the ideas I have had suddenly seem silly and I planned to make a bunch of things for people that I just haven’t done yet. Here’s where the last minute gifts come in. Some of my favourite last minute gifts for kids and adults alike are amigurumi. (Make it extra small and put it on a keychain!) And kids are still into Pokemon (I guess: my kids seem to go in and out of Pokemon). So here’s a collection of some quick (and a couple not-so-quick) Pokemon amigurumi if you’re looking for a delightful handmade gift idea for someone who loves Pokemon.

You can crochet your own Bulbasaur with this intermediate crochet pattern from Shea Crochet. 14 pages of step-by-step instructions to make your own Bulbasaur, with numerous photos to help you with sewing and details! If you make this little guy with worsted weight yarn (as the pattern calls for), you will end up with a toy that is 8 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 8.5 inches long.

Here’s a super quick one for you! This Pokeball crochet pattern from lulus little shop can be made up quickly and would make the perfect little decoration to wrapping or accompaniment to a crisp $20 bill! Made with worsted yarn, it will be about 2.25″ in diameter, but make it in a smaller yarn with a smaller hook and it could be perfect keychain size!

My youngest is planning a gift exchange with his buddies and somehow I have roped myself into making a couple of these patterns from Shea Crochet: this Charmander crochet pattern and the Squirtle crochet pattern below. He expressed interest in learning to crochet and even though I knew this was not going to be a beginner project, he got me and now I’ve got this pattern and a skein of orange yarn and almost all of the pieces done: it’s sewing time. Here’s the other adorable pattern I bought to make (for my kid’s buddy! What was I THINKING?!). This little Squirtle Crochet Pattern (also from Shea Crochet) will sit about 7 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 9 inches long when he is finished, when made with a 3.5 mm hook and worsted yarn. But, if you’re wanting a quicker project (and really, I should have pushed for these guys), this Starter Pokemon Plush Dolls Crochet Pattern Set from 53 Stitches would be much quicker to make up. They are not quite as accurate to the characters, but surely, they’d be recognizable, no? These are definitely more beginner friendly, so if you’re new to crochet, they might be a little more your speed.

Ok, this one definitely will not be a quick one, but how could I not include it? This Mewtwo crochet pattern (again from Shea Crochet… so many good Pokemon amigurumi patterns!) is an advanced level crochet pattern, so if you’re a newbie, this is probably not the pattern for you, but she’s a beauty if you have the skills! With 31 pages and over 70 photos to help you, you will be able to make this toy that stands approximately 20 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide and 18 inches long (includes the tail). Pretty incredible! The Pokemon fan in your life will be impressed by this one!

Ok, my 12 year-old did not pick this one out, so I’m not sure how accurate a represenation it is of the Gyarados Pokemon, but I though it looked pretty cool. This Gyarados Pokemon Amigurumi Crochet Pattern from Sir Purl Grey is very animated looking and will make a doll about 36 cm (14.3 inches) long with worsted weight yarn.

I couldn’t have a Pokemon pattern round up and not include Pikachu! This sweet Pikachu Crochet Pattern from Panda Crochet Store is a deal (only ~$1.44 today!). This one is made with superfine yarn, so it would probably take a bit more time to make up, but he’s so adorable and an iconic Pokemon character, he’d be loved and recognized by anyone!

Speaking of total deals, this Eeveelution Pokemon Pattern set from Nerdy Knitter Designs is only ~$8.53 CAD right now, which is a 70% discount and an absolutely amazing price for 9 patterns that look this detailed! Amazing!

If you have never crocheted with a super bulky chenille yarn, you will be floored at how quickly you can make an adorable, chunky, super squishy and cuddly toy out of it. This Gengar Amigurumi Pattern from Azelia Crochet has 13 pages with lots of pictures and tricks to help you create tyour own amigurumi step-by-step. This would be great for a relatively new crocheter! And it’s so satisfying how quickly toys in this yarn work up!

Quick & Beautiful Handmade Christmas Wall Hangings

It’s kick it into high gear on the gift-making front for me right now! But (of course), as I’m looking for things to make for the family, I’m always finding things to make for myself and our home. Who knows, maybe I’ll make one of these for a family member? I have a spot at my front door for a small one, or I can temporarily displace the standard one I have up most of the time! This might just be my after Christmas project for me! Check out this beautiful collection of handmade Christmas wall hangings and tell me which one you like!

This Crochet Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Pattern from Little Light Design measures 11 inches wide by 28 inches tall, which just might be the perfect size for the spot at my front door. It uses medium (worsted, or a 4) weight yarn and 5.00 mm crochet hook and is an intermediate level crochet pattern. You’ll need a wooden dowel as well, which you can find for a good price here on Amazon.

Little Light Design has a bunch of wall hanging crochet patterns, but I also love the simple beauty of this Noel Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern. This one works up to be about 17 x 25 inches, so a little too wide for the space at the front entrance, but possible the right size for the spot where my regular crochet wall hanging is (that one was made with this pattern). Bonus: I can totally make it whatever colour I want so I can make it match my living room! #makerlife

Here is another small and minimalist wall hanging that could fill that spot at my front entrance. This Minimalist Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Seacliffe Cottage measures approximately 11.5 x 10 inches, excluding the fringe and would work up super quickly! Perfect for a last-minute, but very thoughtful handmade Christmas gift!

Little Light Design has yet another bobbly crochet Christmas wall hanging with this Snowflake Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern. I love the one-colour simplicity of this wall hanging: it would coordinate with any decor! A little larger, this size of this wall hanging is approximately 16.5 inches wide and 32.5 inches long. The skill level on this pattern is easy, but basic crochet skills and techniques are needed.

If you love those bobble stiches, “A Very Bobble Wall Hanging” Crochet Pattern from Love and Stitch Designs is the pattern for you! The relief design on this wall hanging stands out and has a beautiful texture to enjoy. Made with just one colour of worsted weight yarn and a 5.00 mm crochet hook, it works up quickly. It really is all about the bobble, eh? Stash project! Wahoo!) This one would whip up so quickly, you could probably make it in a short evening of crocheting!

Love and Stitch Designs coming in with this gorgeous Plaid Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern! I love how plaid can get worked up so beautifully in crochet! Such a fun colourwork technique! It’s amazing how three colours of yarn that you wouldn’t necessarily would work together magically do when they are worked up in a plaid pattern!

Fresh Knack has another macrame-inspired Modern Christmas Tree Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern for you to check out. When I was looking for wall hanging patterns, almost all of them were rectangular-shaped, which is cool, but this one stood out because it has that macrame-style shape. Such a fun and simple design! I love the incorporation of multiple dowels!

Ok, I went looking for some knitting patterns for Christmas wall hangings and seriously, it just came up with more crochet wall hangings! And hey, I’m not about it, because I found this super cute Christmas Gonk Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Stitches in Time Co UK. How adorable is this little gnome? Such a sweet pattern! This guy would take a little longer than the earlier patterns I’ve shared since it’s made with DK (3) weight yarn.

Ok, here’s another really adorable, but a little more involved Christmas Deer Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern by Chicaoutlet. This makes a lovely little wall hanging for a home with kids around. Or for someone who loves whimsical things (why are they always for kids? boo).

This whimsical Snowman Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern from Stitch by Fay is a delightful little winter-themed wall hanging made with DK weight yarn, but measuring only 9.5 inches by 7.5 inches (excluding hanging loops and fringe), so it would work up pretty quickly. Of course, you could use a heavier weight yarn , like a worsted or a bulky weight and a larger hook, and make a larger, chunkier wall hanging to fill a larger space. That’s the beauty of making it yourself: customization!!!

Amigurumi Patterns You’ll Love

I have been perusing the internet lately and stumbling across the greatest patterns! While my kids aren’t exactly ideal amigurumi-love ages anymore, they are still amused by the little creations I make, even if they’re not “playing” with them. Will my house one day be full of whimsical little amigurumi dolls? Who knows… I do seem to give them away at a decent pace. But I will share with you some of the delightful little patterns that I have been making and have on my to make list. Enjoy!

Oh, I still just can’t get over this Hugo the Frog amigurumi pattern from My Cro Wonder! I made this pattern a few weeks ago and now I am working on the free raincoat and rain boots pattern (see image below). I’m so impressed with how well-designed this pattern is! The instructions for incorporating the wire into the frog is excellent and it makes a very bendable, functional toy!

Isn’t he adorable? I love him! I am kicking myself for not buying the yellow yarn right now. I’m making the jacket in a bright orange, which is fine, but it’s not this lovely yellow (I love yellow). I went simple and bought all my yarn from one supplier, The Magic Yarns. Great experience, btw, speedy shipping, beautiful yarn, everything I ordered as expected, but they were out of this shade of yellow. I should have just ordered some yellow from another shop like Fiscraftland. I might do that after I’m done this post, just ’cause that yellow is *chef’s kiss*!

Isn’t this cupcake pattern from Mufficorn stunning?! I can’t get over the attention to detail and how realistic looking this pattern is! Such a fun pattern to make for a friend celebrating their birthday, especially if they have allergies or are trying to avoid sweets! I haven’t bought this pattern yet, but I’m super curious about the construction of the frosting! That’s probably one of my favourite things about buying a well-written pattern: learning a new technique, seeing how they did it. A lot of experienced crocheters (myself included) could probably figure out how to make something resembling a cupcake, but this one is next level… it really takes the cake!

Of course, Christmas isn’t too far away now, so it’s definitely a good time to start making Christmas themed amigurumi, like this sweet Joy the Baby Christmas Tree Amigurumi Crochet Pattern from Storyland Amis.

How sweet is this little “Miss Cherry” Amigurumi Doll from Happy Crochet Etc? These sweet little dolls make such delightful gifts and they’re so much fun to make! They come together pretty quickly: this pattern has almost no sewing (that’s my favourite kind of amigurumi!).

This sweet Penguin Crochet Pattern from Ami Toy Pattern is a lovely, winter-themed stuffed toy that would make a delightful gift for a child to have a handmade, snuggly lovey from someone who loves them. I love the muted colours that the designer has used for this example, but the beauty of patterns is that you can make the toy in whatever colour suits your fancy!

I can’t even with this adorable bear in Christmas clothes. I love everything about this. How sweet is he?! OK, you should know that this Crochet Pattern for Christmas Clothes from Sveta Crochet Patterns is just for the clothes. The bear pattern is separate, but that also means that if you have a doll or toy that is 27-30 cm (about 12 inches) already, you may be able to make this cute outfit to fit that doll! I just can’t get over all the details in this lovely pattern! This is definitely on my to-make list!

Are you a little bit basic? Or is someone you know a little bit basic? Who doesn’t love a PSL? Well, now you can make that someone a Pumpkin Spice Latte Amigurumi with this crochet pattern from Blue Sparrow Patterns.

Another great Christmas gift idea is adorable little ornaments, like you could make with this collection of Santa, Elf, Reindeer, and Christmas cake ornaments crochet patterns from RNata. Just pop an ornament hanger on these little round characters and you have a most delightful tree ornament to give as a gift or decorate your tree with whimsical little Christmas characters!

This crochet cactus hand amigurumi pattern from FayniToys is awesome! I loved making mine. I did make the rude one in front, but it does just feel like it’s been that kind of year, amirite? She included excellent instructions to make a really well-made little cactus. I’m going to start using mine as a pin cushion. If I were to do one thing differently, it would be to follow her (optional) instructions to glue the structural plastic to the soil part of the toy. I think that would have made it better.

Finally, there’s this sweet little kitty cat amigurumi pattern from Little Muggles. This pattern is a FREE PATTERN available on her website. I know I don’t post a lot of free patterns, because it can be hard to know if they are good patterns. That doesn’t mean that every paid pattern is amazing, but there’s a higher standard for a paid pattern. Little Muggles has her own shop where she also sells paid patterns, so I trust that her free patterns are up to snuff. Another big reason I like to promote paid patterns is that it takes a long time to create and write up a good pattern; designers deserve to be paid for their work! Making a free pattern can be good for a designer when you stay on their website for a while, that helps their ad revenue, but I also love having a printable pattern that I can write on and take with me and not drain my phone battery using. Make Your Own Crocheted Puppets!

It’s no secret that I love amigurumi. I’ve thought about making puppets with amigurumi for a long time. I just think that amigurumi would lend itself to puppet-making so well. I finally thought to gather up a collection of puppet patterns and they all happen to be crochet! Check them out!

How incredible is this Dr Piper MD Hand Puppet Crochet Pattern from Hollys Hobbies Ptbo? This was the kind of puppets that the puppetry group at the small Bible school I went to for a year after high school used. It was always fun to watch them make the puppets come alive with little puppet skits. This pattern makes such a professional-looking puppet; I was surprised to see that Holly’s Hobbies didn’t have more puppet options similar to this one, but if you are creative and an intermediate crocheter, I’m sure you could modify some of the details to make a variety of different looking puppets for a whole set of puppet characters.

Cassius the Friendly Crocodile Hand Puppet Crochet Pattern from Three Loops on the Hook is an adorable little hand puppet that would be a fun little gift for a child to practice their own puppetry.

Three Loops on the Hook also has this Uli the Unicorn Hand Puppet Crochet Pattern which would make a sweet little handmade toy for a unicorn-loving child. Ismo the Owl Hand Puppet Crochet Pattern from Hansens Crochet To Play would make a great puppet for helping to tell stories at the library or at school. I love the cute little scarf and feather details on the puppet’s body.

Even though I don’t have children who play with dolls anymore (did I ever, really? My kids were not really doll kids), I still love the look of an amigurumi doll. Sweet Slippers from Amazing Knit and Crochet Patterns for Toasty Toes

We’re out of our deep freeze here in Edmonton, though the weather dropped for a couple of days. I still find myself in need of slipper-wearing in the house. My family has never been big into slippers, so it’s hard to motivate myself to make something for them that there’s a high chance they won’t use. I made a lovely pair of slippers for myself a couple of years ago. They’re holding up well, but there’s some wear on the interior sole. (I used Phentex for the exterior sole, so that’s holding up great!) So, it might be time for me to consider a new pair. I did just make myself a pair of socks and they are surprisingly warm. But given how long it takes me to get from deciding to making, it’s probably time to start looking for a new pair now. So, I’ve rounded up a baker’s dozen knit and crochet patterns to consider and I’ll let you take a peek at them, too.

This Crochet-Knit Slipper-Clogs Crochet Pattern from Pdf Pattern Design is the pattern I made last time. They turned out great! It is a well-written pattern with clear instructions. It uses the Waistcoat stitch, a knit-looking crochet stitch that makes for a nice solid fabric, unlike the holes that you normally deal with in crochet. It takes a little bit of practice if you’re not familiar with it (hint: crochet LOOSELY!). Perhaps I should just go make myself a nice felt lining like this example has and that would solve my problem!

But sometimes it’s fun to make something new. This pattern from Sirins Crochet claims to be the Easiest Slippers Ever Crochet Pattern. These are made by creating two rectangles and then sewing them together. I think it looks great! It comes with instructions to make any size you want! So if you are a beginner crocheter looking to make a pair of slippers, or just your first project, this just might be the pattern for you! They look stunning and are so simple!

Here’s another Simple House Slippers Crochet Pattern, this one from Exclusive 72. This pattern is pretty basic with minimal shaping, another good pattern for beginner crocheters. The pattern includes all sizes and would be great for both men and women. These work up quickly in a tight stitch, making them durable, thick and fluffy.

I just love the look of these Dakota Crochet Casual Slippers from Magic4Kids. I love this idea of being able to get the pattern and the sole together. Very fun. So you get the digital pattern when you first buy it and then they will send you the size of sole that you order. How great is that?

Ok, knitters, you were so patient through all those crochet patterns. And now I have a few knitting patterns for you! Starting wit this super affordable Moccasin Slippers with a Cuff Knitting Pattern from Kween Bee. It is also available for free on her website, which is included in her pattern listing. But if you like to print a version off, or be able to make it without internet access or your phone going into sleep mode, this pdf printable is less than $2. Snuggly Handmade Socks to Knit and Crochet

I finally did it! This was the year I knit myself some socks! They’re so great: I love them! They’re so warm! If you want to see my process and finished knit socks, follow me on Instagram to see all the patterns I make! If you have not experienced the joy and warmth of handmade wool socks, you need to get your hands (…feet?) on some of these! I’ve collected a bunch of great sock patterns for you to try out, whether you knit or crochet!

First, for the knitters: The Thicksgiving Socks from Summer Lee Design Co. These socks are an easy, basic, worsted weight sock knitting pattern with three different variations. Theh pattern set includes tips and tricks for working worsted socks by marling two strands of fingering weight yarn together.

The Vanilla Socks on DPNs knitting pattern by Crazy Sock Lady Designs is another straightforward sock design. If you prefer double-pointed needles or that’s all you have, this pattern is for you, specifically designed for double-pointed needles (DPNs), it has an accompanying video tutorial that walks you through how to make the entire sock on DPNs, from setting up the Cast-On to the Kitchener-stitch toe and weaving in your ends!

The Heartnut Socks knitting pattern from Knox Mountain Knit Co is actually a physical item, unlike most of the PDF downloads that I feature here on my blog. The full colour, professionally printed knitting pattern is printed on acid-free, heirloom quality papter and includes a digital download code for Ravelry, which is definitely an interesting delivery method! Let me know if you like this and I will consider featuring something like this in my patterns! I love the beautiful and elegant heartnut inspired cable across the top, so if you’ve been wanting to make socks and also learn cables, this is the pattern for you!

If you’re looking for a deal of a pattern, this Top-Down Adult Socks Knitting Pattern from Zyapa Masha is only $0.66 Canadian! It includes 6 pages of text, charts and pictures. The socks are worked top down, using double-pointed needles OR circular needles, if you use the magic loop method (I love magic loop! I use circular needles for everything!).

If you consider yourself an intermediate knitter, then the River Ripple Socks knitting pattern by Lucy Neatby of little barn studios is the pattern for you. Perfect for showing off a skein of hand-painted yarn, the construction is beautiful! From the description: “These socks are begun with a soft faced cuff with a decorative i-cord inspired detail. This leads into the leg pattern with cabled elongated stitches to highlight the colours in the yarn. A 70% garter stitch short row heel is used (with smaller needles for added durability) and then the leg stitch pattern is reversed with a condensed stitch pattern for the sole, adding strength, warmth and maintaining equal row height with the instep pattern. Finished with a cozy garter stitch toe to coordinate with the heel.” Sounds so good, right?

The Cozy Cabin Socks knitting pattern from Darling Jadore is another lovely worsted-weight sock knitting pattern. “A classic construction with cozy knit stitches on worsted-weight yarn, The Beginner Socks pattern is perfect for first-time sock knitters and seasoned knitters alike. Designed with beginners in mind, this pattern thoroughly guides you through each step and with video guidance. You’ll be amazed by how quickly these socks knit up, and how fun they are to make.”

The House Socks knitting pattern from HandKnit Home is a great knitting pattern for a pair of cute and comfortable ankle-length socks. The pattern is written for Adult Medium size and includes instructions for adding length to the foot for a longer sock. The pattern calls for an Estonian cast on (new cast-on for me! I love learning new techniques!), but will work just as well with a regular long-tail cast on.

How about some colour-work socks? The MIEZI Sock knitting pattern from average pony gives you detailed instructions on how to knit a pair of socks with leopard spots! How cool is that?! (Also, don’t you love the bottom of the foot, too?! The pattern contains detailed descriptions on how to knit cuff, leg, shadow wrap heel, foot and toe of your new sock. The pattern is especially designed with frequent color changes so that you rarely have long floats and none is longer than 9 or 10 stitches. So it’s perfect for practicing colorwork.

While the colourwork socks may be a little more advanced than your skills, the Retro Socks knitting pattern from D19 Eco Friendly Life might be more your speed. The diamond texture adds interest, while still allowing this pattern to be classified as a beginner pattern. So, if you’ve wanted to get started with some socks, but are bored by the plain socks of traditional beginner knit sock patterns, check out this pattern

Looking for some sock yarn? KnitPicks has a wide variety of sock yarns at a variety of price points, in a wide range of fibre contents. Local yarn shops are also great place to pick up a skein of lovely sock yarn. Since you usually only need one hank of yarn for a pair of socks, it’s a great time to splurge on some hand-dyed local yarns!

Ok, now for the crocheters. We don’t immediately think crochet for socks because the fabrci that is created is typically bulkier and holier at the same time, than I prefer in a sock. But this quote from the listing for this book is worth considering: “Having been a sock knitter for many many years, when it came to crochet socks I found it difficult to find any patterns that didn’t look bulky, stiff and uncomfortable. Tempted to try my hand at knitting lacy socks but lacking the confidence, I turned to my trusty crochet stitches and a new love was born. You really can make crochet socks that are comfortable, beautiful and practical.” The Crochet Sock Collection is a physical printed booklet from Vicki Brown Designs. The Herringbone Socks Crochet Pattern from Heart Hook Home is a toe-up, short row heel sock using the Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch. Available in 5 sizes from Women’s 5 to Men’s 13, you can whip up a pair of these for all your favourite poeple.

The Pearl Socks Crochet Pattern from mon petit violin was originally published in Inside Crochet magazine, issue 101. With lovely texture on the leg portion of the sock, these socks will be stunning to look at outside of the boots and perfect to wear inside of boots to keep your feet warm this winter!

The Happy Socks are an easy crochet pattern as far a socks go! This socks from this pattern by Rich Textures Crochet are made using simple single crochet stitches and worked from the cuff down. It includes a video tutorial includes the full instructions to make a women’s pair of size 5/6 (US) socks. In fact, if you don’t mind reading a pattern online, this pattern is available for free on the Rich Textures Crochet blog (there’s web address in the listing description)!

Cables are typically reserved for knitting, but the Cable Car Socks Crochet Pattern from A la Sascha incorporates beautifully textured cables into these crocheted socks that are not stiff or uncomfortable at all. These socks look so beautifully constructed, it’s very tempting to consider making many pairs of these adorable socks!
