Handmade Holiday Gifts

It’s go time! November always takes me by surprise. Before November, if I had started thinking about Christmas gifts or making anything, I was so super early and ahead of the game. Once November hits, I always feel behind. It’s stupid, really. But the maker mom in me wants to handmake something for everyone. Besides making everyone some coasters or ornaments, it just isn’t practical to start in November. But just because you can’t make something elaborate for everyone, doesn’t mean that you can’t make something elaborate for someone special. So, I’ve rounded up a group of patterns to make for some beautiful handmade holiday gifts! Check them out and get to work!

Or… here’s the other trick, if you’re starting in November, you can still get a handmade gift made for you! There are so many makers who make a gorgeous handmade gift for you, wrap it beautifully and ship it to you in time for Christmas. Gifts for Knitters

If you have a knitter on your list and don’t know what to get them, well let me steer you in the right direction! When you know someone does a craft, sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the options of things that you don’t know what to do with. Well, I am here to guide you!

A yarn bowl is always a great idea for a lovely gift for a knitter. Many knitters don’t own one yet (even me)! I usually wind a center-pull ball, but a yarn bowl is still a lovely knitting accessory and isn’t this wooden one beautiful?

Here’s another super adorable yarn bowl. Don’t you love this ceramic sheep yarn bowl? So cute.

Unique buttons also make a lovely gift. It’s always great to have an assortment on hand for finishing up a project without having to go shopping for buttons. Handmade Holiday Gift Guide

I know many of us to have grandiose ideas about getting our act together and making everyone on our holiday lists beautiful handmade Christmas gifts, but then the reality of life sets in and you need to accept that you just might have to compromise a little. You can still give great handmade gifts! And you can support real people with small businesses who are trying to make it as artisans. It’s one of the main reasons I love Etsy. It’s a great place to find unique, handmade gifts made ethically (and sometimes even locally!). Check out some of my handmade holiday gift picks.

First of all, you know I’ve pointed you in the direction of many great handmade hat patterns you can knit or crochet. But if you don’t have time to make one, you can get an Arrow Beanie made to order from Nina Bella Co. Super cute, eh? As always, while we’re shopping for others, we find some great things for ourselves. This winter sweatshirt is adorable and casual for the festive season. You can get one for your sister, or for yourself.

While I’m not really a pet person, I love pet people. And pet people love their pets. Doesn’t this Felted Wool Cat Cave Pebble look so cozy for your kitty? Super sweet and would look stylish in any living space!

Got a baby on your list? This simple and sweet crib sized heart baby blanket makes a lovely gift for a new baby. If you still have some time to knit, check out one of these patterns to make a special gift for the little one in your life.

It’s often hard to find a nice handmade gift for the man in your life. I always think that I might like to make Mr Evangelist a hand-knit sweater, but I never leave myself enough time. I would absolutely consider one like this men’s winter-themed knitted sweater. Christmas-y but not an ugly Christmas sweater. You need to get your order in quickly to give this crafter some time because I think it’s made to order, but it’s so lovely!

Crocheted Christmas Gifts

Christmas is coming! And especially for crafters: if you’re going to make something for your loved ones’ gifts, you need to get going! I often start too late and end up either crocheting long hours and late night or having to go with a store-bought back up plan (or–and you’re welcome to use this idea– giving handmade gift cards for a handmade item… which then gives me the Christmas break to keep working!)

But you still have time to crochet before the gift giving season is upon us, so pick a pattern and get crocheting! Here are some of my crocheted Christmas gifts picks.

In our house, the gift giving starts with opening up a stocking. How about giving a stocking? I love this Brighton Christmas Stocking pattern by Cyprianne Nolan from Pretty Darn Adorable. It calls for a bulky yarn or two strands of worsted held together, so it would crochet up quickly and has lots of pictures to help guide you.

Is there a new baby you’re making for? Check out these adorable Mini Mukluk Booties! Designed with a beginner in mind, any crocheter will be able to make up these lovely slippers in three different sizes: 0-3 month, 3-6 months & 6-12 months. Such a fun little pattern!

Or, for an even more Christmassy pair of baby booties, you could choose these Christmas Baby Booties also at A Frayed Knot Boutique. I love the fuzzy yarn used at the top. Super sweet for a little girl to complete her Christmas outfit!

Ok, babies are only babies for so long and then they grow up and you still want to make them handmade gifts. Winter hats are a fantastic option, especially with all the amazing options out there. I was almost just going to leave you at that suggestion to go check out the Ruby Webbs Etsy shop for some more great patterns, but I just love The Stevie Crochet Beanie Pattern so much that I had to share it with you. It’s another great gift giving option and comes in 7 different sizes, so you’re sure to be able to make one for anyone on your list!

If you don’t know the hat size of your recipient, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous cowl! The fringe and buttons add a great finish to this lovely June Berry Cowl from Wild Sapling.

There are many other crocheted gifts you can make besides wearable items, including this fun Vintage Camera Bag Crochet Pattern from The Artisan’s Nook. Sometimes teens can be so hard to buy for and even more difficult to make for, but I think this little camera purse pattern is perfect for a teen gift!

I also find that boys are sometimes hard to make for as well, but I think any little boy would be delighted to receive this Star Wars Yoda and R2D2 set. Like I’ve said before, I love browsing Pinterest and Etsy to look at all the cool handmade stuff and all the great supplies and patterns to make my own cool handmade stuff. There are so many unique handmade items available on Etsy. It’s a favourite place of mine.

Today I’d like to share with you some awesome Etsy listings for some great gifts for moms. Mother’s Day is coming, you know! As a mom and as a person with a mom, I know what would make an awesome Mother’s Day Gift.
