Crocheted Christmas Gifts

Christmas is coming! And especially for crafters: if you’re going to make something for your loved ones’ gifts, you need to get going! I often start too late and end up either crocheting long hours and late night or having to go with a store-bought back up plan (or–and you’re welcome to use this idea– giving handmade gift cards for a handmade item… which then gives me the Christmas break to keep working!)

But you still have time to crochet before the gift giving season is upon us, so pick a pattern and get crocheting! Here are some of my crocheted Christmas gifts picks.

In our house, the gift giving starts with opening up a stocking. How about giving a stocking? I love this Brighton Christmas Stocking pattern by Cyprianne Nolan from Pretty Darn Adorable. It calls for a bulky yarn or two strands of worsted held together, so it would crochet up quickly and has lots of pictures to help guide you.

Is there a new baby you’re making for? Check out these adorable Mini Mukluk Booties! Designed with a beginner in mind, any crocheter will be able to make up these lovely slippers in three different sizes: 0-3 month, 3-6 months & 6-12 months. Such a fun little pattern!

Or, for an even more Christmassy pair of baby booties, you could choose these Christmas Baby Booties also at A Frayed Knot Boutique. I love the fuzzy yarn used at the top. Super sweet for a little girl to complete her Christmas outfit!

Ok, babies are only babies for so long and then they grow up and you still want to make them handmade gifts. Winter hats are a fantastic option, especially with all the amazing options out there. Check out this amazing geometric patterned Evie Crochet Beanie Pattern from rubywebbs‘ Etsy shop. (There are lots of other great patterns in that shop, which you should also check out.)

I was almost just going to leave you at that suggestion to go check out the Ruby Webbs Etsy shop for some more great patterns, but I just love The Stevie Crochet Beanie Pattern so much that I had to share it with you. It’s another great gift giving option and comes in 7 different sizes, so you’re sure to be able to make one for anyone on your list!

If you don’t know the hat size of your recipient, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous cowl! The fringe and buttons add a great finish to this lovely June Berry Cowl from Wild Sapling.

There are many other crocheted gifts you can make besides wearable items, including this fun Vintage Camera Bag Crochet Pattern from The Artisan’s Nook. Sometimes teens can be so hard to buy for and even more difficult to make for, but I think this little camera purse pattern is perfect for a teen gift!

I also find that boys are sometimes hard to make for as well, but I think any little boy would be delighted to receive this Star Wars Yoda and R2D2 set. This is not the only Star Wars inspired amigurumi patterns that Los Sospechosos carries in their shop. There’s a pattern for just about every character in the original series, plus a couple others.

Maybe your recipient is ready to learn to crochet or would like to learn amigurumi. This little pug dog amigurumi kit is a perfect first amigurumi project and contains everything you need to make this adorable little stuffed animal! Or… buy it for yourself to make your first amigurumi and then give the little stuffy away!

If you’re making a gift for your coworkers or your boss, you should consider making them each one of these potted cactus plants from Planet June. You can get a set of eight realistic cactus plant patterns for under $20! June is an amigurumi master! She has so many great patterns: definitely worth checking out her shop!

Well that should get you started on making some lovely gifts for Christmas! Go get yourself a pattern and get started. You have no more time than you have right now! Go go go! And pin this so others can get kickstarted too!

Amazing Amigurumi

I’ve been spending a little more time on Instagram lately, trying to learn, while also trying to not be too much of an old person, because I’m not finding it quite as intuitive as other platforms. But there is so much crafty goodness to be had on Instagram! Following some of my favorite designers has me once again in awe of these fantastic designers and in love with their adorable creations.

I’m absolutely loving this adorable Jack the Pirate Monkey amigurumi pattern! Perfect handmade gift idea for the little monkey in your life!

I’m also amazed by this wonderful amigurumi camera pattern. One of the great things about amigurumi is that you can make soft toys for kids in any shape you want so there’s a fun and safe and non-breakable toy for your toddler! Great for pretending which so many toddlers love.

Have you ever heard of glow in the dark yarn? Well, this pattern says that you can make it into a little glow worm by using fluorescent yarn, but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen glow in the dark yarn in the yarn store. Have you? You could get the pattern kit (with all the yarn and stuff) here if you’re worried about being able to find the yarn you’re looking for locally.

Now, there’s no pattern for this amigurumi VW Beetle toy, but it’s so beautiful that it is definitely a place in this amazing amigurumi roundup! Don’t be afraid to request a custom order from VictoriaLysykToys if this particular listing is sold out by the time you get there.

Finally, in today’s amazing amigurumi finds is this stunning dragon crochet amigurumi pattern by VenelopaToys. Don’t you just love her big wide-open eyes and lovely detail on the wings? This looks like a great pattern to make!

I hope you enjoyed this roundup of amazing amigurumi. Let me know if you make one of these lovely patterns! I would love to see your work. Comment here on the blog or on this pin on Pinterest:

Fall Amigurumi

In my last post, I was protesting that it was still summer, but I must admit now that fall is fast approaching. The weather here turned quickly and now I am faced with covering my tomatoes on Monday to deal with nearly freezing temperatures. This shouldn’t be happening already. But you can’t fight the inevitable!

Fall is the perfect time of year to get back into crochet and warm up with a cup of tea under balls and balls of yarn! I have found some beautiful fall amigurumi for you to enjoy, that will warm your heart and help you embrace this new season.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

The start of fall means the start of school for us and while I’m sure your kids’ teachers already have plenty of apple paraphernalia, I bet ya they don’t have an amigurumi apple.

I love play food patterns! They make such great toys for kids! This is a beautiful apple pattern that would be a fun twist on an old classic gift for a teacher. And hey, if they don’t have a use for it, they can put it in with the play kitchen at their school!

If you have any fall babies in your life, this little fall reindeer essential oil diffuser toy is so fun! It’s not a pattern, but it’s such a good idea for a little handmade gift for a new baby!

If you did want to make one of these yourself, the reindeer pattern is available from TheresasCrochetShop. I know we normally think about reindeer as Christmas things, but these animals have to live year-round, right? Of course they would just wear woodsy orange scarves in the fall, right?

And while not exactly amigurumi, I couldn’t bear not to show this adorable scarecrow baby photo prop outfit/costume pattern. You could make it yourself and dress your little one up for Halloween as an adorable scarecrow!

How adorable is that? Almost makes me want to have another baby!

It wouldn’t be fall without pumpkins, right? This pattern set complete with beautiful fall flowers, mice and a pumpkin on a vine is a sweet deal!

I love how the little mice are poking their heads out of the pumpkin! I know most of my readers are Americans, but we Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving at the beginning of October, so these little guys would be great decor for the upcoming Thanksgiving celebrations!

I hope you enjoyed this little round up of fall amigurumi patterns! Start crocheting today! Or pin it for later!

Sol the Summer Doll

After writing up that top 10 summer Etsy picks post, I still found more adorable things to crochet for summer!!! I know it’s August and summer posts are usually written early when everyone’s excited and people are already talking pumpkin spice, but I’m still solidly in summer mode (sort of… ripping apart a bathroom and putting a new plumbing stack in is totally summer mode, right?). I still have a trip ahead of me too, so it’s not a bad idea to have a quick little project to keep my fingers busy while we travel.

Check out this adorable little doll pattern. At just 10 inches tall, she looks like she will make a sweet little doll for any kid. Her beach accessories complete the deal!

You can get the pattern on Etsy here. I hope you enjoy making her! If you do, please share your pictures as comments on Pinterest!

Isn’t she adorable? And it looks like she would fit in a mint tin! What a sweet little handmade gift idea for a little girl. I know my kids loved tiny things they could travel with and give tiny homes to! What am I talking about? I love that kind of stuff! So cute!

This little pattern bundle includes the doll, the clothes, and the sleeping set (including the super-teeny-tiny-adorable teddy bears!). This looks like a great little project to make while travelling or crocheting outside in the beautiful weather!

Totally adorable baby shoes

Sorry I’ve been MIA, but spring has called and so has the garden and the yard and a lot of other stuff. It was a looooooooooooooooooooong winter and I am so happy to finally be able to spend time outdoors again! So good for my head and my tan and my soul!

*Disclosure: some of the following links are affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

But there’s always the pull of Etsy… I checked the new items from my favourite Etsy sellers and found some totally ADORBS baby shoes! My friend just had a baby and her baby shower is in a week; I think I could totally make these sweet little slippers for her!

Adorable baby shoes!

Best Baby Patterns

Spring is for babies! So many babies being born or babies-to-be announced! So it’s got me thinking about and searching for some lovely handmade patterns to knit and crochet as gifts to welcome these new babies! Check out some of them below.

*Disclosure: some of the following links are affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

I love this adorable crocheted deer hat. It would make a great gift for a baby of a hunting family (though, that’s kind of morbid if you think too much about it…) or super cute for a Christmas baby.

This sweet crochet pattern for a textured baby hat with an adorable bow would be the perfect gift for a new little girl baby! Pink and bows are so much fun! My little girl loved pink and I loved to make pink hats for her… now not so much with the pink. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Booties are always a great thing to make for new babies. I love to make booties because, with the right pattern, handmade booties will actually stay on a baby’s feet! So many baby slippers and socks will just slip right off and then you end up losing them and that’s a real shame. I can’t tell if this pattern above allows those ties to go around the ankle, but I know this pattern does, because I have made them a number of times and it is a great pattern.

It’s definitely easier taking photos of slippers once there are someone’s feet in them! You should totally try out this pattern if you have a baby in your life. Hook Candy has a couple of slipper patterns that I have made and they are really great.

Here is the pair I made for my youngest baby (over 7 years ago *sniff*).

Maybe you have lots of time or a very special baby coming your way, then you can crochet up this adorable set of booties with a matching hat! I love buttons on baby booties!

Or, if you are not as good with gauge yet, you could make a decor gift like this teddy bear rug for baby’s room. What a sweet pattern! It would make a fantastic shower gift that everyone will oooh over!

Or you could make a super cute toy pattern! There are also plenty of fun amigurumi patterns here on my blog for you to check out or on my Amigurumi Pinterest board. This adorable Spotty the Cow amigurumi pattern is super sweet and a unique toy to make for a new baby. Love it!

Great Handmade Gifts for Mom

Like I’ve said before, I love browsing Pinterest and Etsy to look at all the cool handmade stuff and all the great supplies and patterns to make my own cool handmade stuff. There are so many unique handmade items available on Etsy. It’s a favourite place of mine.

Today I’d like to share with you some awesome Etsy listings for some great gifts for moms. Mother’s Day is coming, you know! As a mom and as a person with a mom, I know what would make an awesome Mother’s Day Gift.

*Disclosure: some of the following links are affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may receive a small commission.*

For the gardening mom, personalized garden tools. Awesome!

Personalized Garden tools for the gardener in your life. These would make a lovely mother's day or father's day gift

You can get these here.

Another awesome gift for the gardener is this great Milkmade Apron (and it’s currently on sale right now!).

The Milkmaid Apron. Great all-purpose linen apron for gardening, collecting eggs from chickens. Vintage cross back linen apron with deep pockets

Oh, and you have the check out this excerpt from the description. First, a pretty normal description:

It is the attention to detail on this apron that really makes it stand above the rest. The leather tabs and grommets hold the straps securely, giving more durability than the average apron and allowing for easy adjusting to fit any size. The vintage, blue striped fabric is in limited supply and, due to popularity, will not last long. The three large pockets are cut on a slant, with a tall thin pocket, perfect for utensils, paint brushes, or gardening tools, a middle pocket for larger items and a smaller one for a cell phone or other odds n’ ends, making it an ideal kitchen apron, garden apron or craft apron.

Then here’s my favourite line:

Put it on and you will be prancing through fields of wild lavender and baking bread from scratch in no time!

Haha! Awesome!

And now, for the knitting mom:

Haha! Love it!! Knit fast, Die warm! PDF printable art perfect for the craft room!

As a knitter, I think this is awesome. As a gift, this sign is super budget-friendly because it is a printable sign. It is also great for kids who procrastinate a lot because it’s an instant download. So, buy it, download it, print it, frame it and wrap it up. You’re good to go.

Maybe your mom doesn’t have enough mugs. Or maybe she just needs a really hilarious one! This one is good for a laugh.

If your mom is really more of a stylin’ mom who likes gorgeous bags or to haul a lot of stuff around, check out this beautiful, natural-character, full-grain leather tote bag. They are also on sale right now. So snap one up while you can. What a great deal.

Gorgeous natural character leather tote bag. Different sizes and colors available... isn't this beautiful, now which color to choose!?!?

If you’re looking for something a little more affordable, but still unique and beautiful, you should get her one of these Antique Victorian Silverware-inspired heart necklaces. What a fun idea and so pretty!

Necklace pendant inspired by antique victorian silverware! What a great idea! So beautiful! I bet my mom would love something like this!

Or you could get her one of these beautiful Dandelion Tulle Embroidery Hoop Art wall hangings.

So cool! These dandelion embroidery hoop art pieces are amazing! Great mother's day gift idea!

Wouldn’t one of these look fantastic hanging in the kitchen window? I think your mom would think so, too.

As much as we like beautiful things, if you have time, you could make your mom something and that would probably be even more special to her. These baskets would crochet up quickly if you’re handy like that.

Sturdy crochet basket pattern with a fold-over edge in three sizes. Perfect for storing yarn and knitting and crochet supplies or organizing other odds & ends

Gorgeous, sturdy, and super-practical for mom.

If you really want to impress your mom, though, you could paint her a portrait. Not artsy like that? It’s just as impressive (possibly more so, depending on your portrait skills) to get this artist to do it for you. Check out some of her stunning work:

Wow! This artist does amazing work! Custom portraits from just $135.00! This would make such a lovely mother's day gift for my mom! She'd love to have a painting of my kids! Check out craft evangelist's other mother's day gift ideas.
