I posted a round up of fingerless gloves I was choosing between a few weeks ago when I was complaining of my freezing fingers in my office. I did make a pair, but now we’re onto full-on winter in these parts, so you need mittens whenever you venture out of the house. Which pair should I make next? There are so many lovely knit and crochet patterns to make. Which do you like? (They also make great gifts, especially chunky crocheted mittens: they work up super quickly!

I’m a big fan of these chunky knit Cabled Hat and Mittens Pattern. Bonus hat pattern! Right? So classic and perfect for showing off a lovely yarn!
The Helix Mittens knitting pattern is another great knit mitten pattern. Look at the fun swirl in these lovely mittens!
The Jesse Mittens crochet pattern has a nice texture with a contrasting cuff, they set off any winter outfit. This same designer also has a hat pattern that matches!
Cabled Mittens Crochet Pattern by All About Ami (fellow Edmontonian!) are a cute mitten with a cable knit pattern for crocheters. I think the cable-knit look is what a lot of crocheters are kind of envious of knitters for. You can learn both! I learned to knit after I learned to crochet, so I knit continental and it feels so much more natural than the English method to me.
Frosty Forest Mittens crochet pattern are another chunky crochet mitten pattern that look toasty warm and would crochet up quickly for a last minute gift!
One day I want to make some of these ultra warm Alpaca Thrum Mittens! All that roving inside makes them super warm and cozy and the little puffy heart stitch on the outside is adorable!
I’m a huge fan of simple knitting patterns, so I love these Frisco Mittens, which are another pattern that would highlight and show off a beautiful yarn! Sometimes you save that lovely stuff for just the right project. These cozy mittens look just right for that.
Keep your fingers busy and then warm with one of these lovely pair of mittens! Pick up a pattern today! Or pin it for tomorrow!

I’ve posted other plaidcrocheted hat patterns before, but if you’re a knitter, this Pumpkin Pie Knitting Pattern is a great chunky knit hat for you to practice your plaid.
Check out this awesome diamond embellished Knit Regan Beanie pattern! Also a chunky knit, it would work up quickly! I love the colour choices in this example, too! Which colours would you choose?
Here’s another crocheted pattern, this Crochet Dandelion Slouch Beanie Pattern is worked up with a self-striping yarn, probably with a Caron Cake or something. So cute. I love this colour choice too!
The Toph Slouchy Beanie Hat Knitting Pattern looks almost surreal! As a relatively experienced knitter, I have no idea how I would begin to make this, so I would totally need to buy the pattern! I have about 5 or 6 patterns that I still need to make right now, so I’ll have to put this one on hold for now! Will you make it and show me?
There are so many creative ways to work colour into crocheted hats, like this Speckled Ridge Hat Crochet Pattern. I love the chunky pops of colour. And those yarn pompoms are super easy to make with a pompom maker. I love mine!
I’ve been meaning to learn this woven crochet stitch in this Crochet Hat Pattern! It looks so lovely in this hat! I want one!
Of course, not all of us have time to make it all, but you can still have a handmade Knitted hat with pompom, if you’re willing to part with a little more money! You get the finished work of a skilled craftsperson and none of the work! Sounds like a win to me! With the gift-giving season drawing ever closer, it’s time to get those orders in!
Here’s another great option for the time-crunched, the Ski Bunny Knit Hat. This one is a lovely chunky, cable-knit toque, perfect for the ski hill. How cute will you look skiing this holiday in this gorgeous beanie?
Pick up a pattern and some yarn today and you might have a hat by tomorrow (if you’re fast)! Or pin it so you don’t forget (or share it with your sister so she can make you one… that’s what my sisters do).
If you are new to knitting or crochet, you may not have all the tools and supplies that you need to get started on a project. And you may not know where to go to find the exact yarn you need for a project. You just want to get going and not have to worry about collecting all the supplies! That can be half the battle. So I’ve collected some projects that are all put together with everything that you need in order to make these fantastic crafts!

I am in complete awe of this fantastic flying saucer with alien & cow kit from lalylaland. And get this: it’s not just a cute decorative item, it’s a pull-toy with the theme song from X-Files! How much fun would it be to make this for your nerdy friend (or their baby!)? So great. I can’t get over how much I love this. This kit comes with all the special stuff you need that would be extra hard to find, so you can really make something different! It’s available for pre-order right now, but they’re due to ship by Nov 23, so get your order in for this awesome kit!
Big knits are all the rage right now. Those giant arm-knit blankets look so cozy and this floor pouf ottoman knitting kit would make a fantastic accessory with your giant knit blanket!
There are also similar giant crochet project kits to get you started with your extreme crocheting. Check out this Extreme Crochet Starter Kit if you’ve always wanted to try big crochet but didn’t know where to start.
Going back to smaller projects, amigurumi is a fantastic way to introduce a new crocheter to the craft, with a cute result that is very motivating. This Robin Crochet Kit is a small project kit that would make a perfect gift for a beginner crocheter.
Or once you get established as a crocheter, this slightly bigger Crochet Sheep kit is another adorable craft kit that includes the yarn, fiberfill, safety eyes and embroidery floss that you need to make this adorable stuffed lamb toy. You will still need basic crochet supplies (hook, stitch marker, yarn needle & scissors). If you’re new to crochet, you might find this hook set with accessories helpful.
This Mommy & Me Crochet Hat Set Kit would be fantastic for starting a new mom into the world of crochet. Everything she needs to make matching hats for herself and her little one! Adorable.
If you’re looking for more of a Christmassy feel for your crochet kit projects for this time of year, check out this adorable little Christmas Snowman Amigurumi Crochet Kit. He would crochet up quickly and be a great decoration for the winter season!
Go pick up a kit today and then as soon as it arrives, you’ll be ready to start creating! Pin your favorite idea for later!
Cozy or cosy? Whichever way you spell it, it spells warm! I’m having a tough time adjusting to the change in temperature this year (especially in my office where someone is randomly turning on the AC!), so I’ve been looking for a cardigan I can keep at my desk to deal with the fluctuating temperatures and stay toasty while I work! I’ve collected a few patterns that I like here. These cocoon cardigans have been very popular and they look super warm. What do you think? Which one will you put on your needles/hook?

Then there this Oversized Scoop Sweater knitting pattern from bromefields. It looks like a super easy knitting pattern that I could make while I watch tv. That’s the beauty of knitting… if it’s an easy enough pattern, you don’t even have to look at it for a good chunk of the time. I once knit a scarf for my brother in law while I read a book!
If you are relatively new to crochet and all you remember is a granny square that your granny taught you, you could try this Granny Cocoon Shrug crochet pattern by Rove Handmade. This might be too “airy” for my needs though. But it’s super stylish and straight-forward if you’re looking for a nice accessory.
This easy knitting pattern for a cocoon cardigan from Knitty Sunny looks like it would also be an easy knit. One of my favourite things about easy knitting patterns is that when you are an intermediate or advanced knitter, these projects look SOOO good. Sometimes I stretch myself by knitting something complicated. Sometimes I knock it out of the park and knit something easy that looks incredible.
This beautiful cable-knit Silver Cocoon knitting pattern from Bummbul looks cozy and lovely as well. Tell me, which one would you choose? Or maybe I’ll come up with my own pattern…
Does anyone else have frozen mousing hand syndrome? I mean, maybe I need an ergonomics assessment so I can figure out ways to get some warm blood flowing to my hands, but for now I’m trying to decide on a pair of fingerless mittens to make so that I can keep up my computer-related work while keeping my hands warm! (And even crochet with them on!!! Bonus!) I’ve found a bunch, so I hope you’re prepared for a big list. There are so many! How do I decide?!

I also like this simple crochet pattern for a stylish pair of fingerless mittens with an adorable button accent. I like the finishing detail on the top and bottom of these mittens, so I’d be really interested to get the pattern to see what method yarngodessused to get that finish! It’s really subtle, but very lovely!
If you prefer a crocheted wrist warmer pattern with a little more flair, you should check out these Long Dragon Scale gloves from Happy Seal Design. The dragon scale stitch is a lovely way to embellish any garment. And I also like the look of using a self-striping yarn, as shown in the picture to add another layer of interest.
Speaking of wrist warmers with flair, how about a pattern with some humour, too? These fun fingerless hedgehog mitts are super fun and would make anyone smile.
As much as I love to crochet, finished items tend to be a little bulkier, so knit wrist warmers can be much more pleasant to wear while you work. If you’re not a knitter, or you just plain don’t have time to knit a pair before you need your hands warmed, you can purchase a pair of these handmade Knitting Gloves from Suzann61. I love the beautifully embroidered flowers on this delicate, but simple pair of fingerless mittens! Gorgeous!
Here is another slim fitting and delicate looking pattern for these Wishbone Mitts. I love the cable knit detail along the back of them to add an extra layer of interest to an otherwise simple knit gloves pattern. The designer of this pattern has an Etsy shop full of lovely and classi knitting patterns you should definitely check out if you love knitting!
If you’re looking for a more whimsical knitting pattern AND maybe you’re a football fan AND maybe you’re a loom-knitter, you could make this pair of Loom-Knit Football Themed Fingerless Mittens.
Well, that’s about all I have time to show you right now, but if you want some more ideas, follow my Pinterest Knit and Crochet: Mittens board because I’m always posting there! So many great ideas!!! Choose one today or Pin it for later!
