Sweet Slippers from Amazing Knit and Crochet Patterns for Toasty Toes

We’re out of our deep freeze here in Edmonton, though the weather dropped for a couple of days. I still find myself in need of slipper-wearing in the house. My family has never been big into slippers, so it’s hard to motivate myself to make something for them that there’s a high chance they won’t use. I made a lovely pair of slippers for myself a couple of years ago. They’re holding up well, but there’s some wear on the interior sole. (I used Phentex for the exterior sole, so that’s holding up great!) So, it might be time for me to consider a new pair. I did just make myself a pair of socks and they are surprisingly warm. But given how long it takes me to get from deciding to making, it’s probably time to start looking for a new pair now. So, I’ve rounded up a baker’s dozen knit and crochet patterns to consider and I’ll let you take a peek at them, too.

This Crochet-Knit Slipper-Clogs Crochet Pattern from Pdf Pattern Design is the pattern I made last time. They turned out great! It is a well-written pattern with clear instructions. It uses the Waistcoat stitch, a knit-looking crochet stitch that makes for a nice solid fabric, unlike the holes that you normally deal with in crochet. It takes a little bit of practice if you’re not familiar with it (hint: crochet LOOSELY!). Perhaps I should just go make myself a nice felt lining like this example has and that would solve my problem!

But sometimes it’s fun to make something new. This pattern from Sirins Crochet claims to be the Easiest Slippers Ever Crochet Pattern. These are made by creating two rectangles and then sewing them together. I think it looks great! It comes with instructions to make any size you want! So if you are a beginner crocheter looking to make a pair of slippers, or just your first project, this just might be the pattern for you! They look stunning and are so simple!

Need a set of crochet hooks? This Crochet Hook Set has everything you need to get started with crochet.

Here’s another Simple House Slippers Crochet Pattern, this one from Exclusive 72. This pattern is pretty basic with minimal shaping, another good pattern for beginner crocheters. The pattern includes all sizes and would be great for both men and women. These work up quickly in a tight stitch, making them durable, thick and fluffy.

I just love the look of these Dakota Crochet Casual Slippers from Magic4Kids. Using super bulky yarn and a large hook, this pattern works up quickly and includes sies for kids and adults, so you can make a pair for the whole family. I love the structured look of this slipper! I’ve got some super bulky yarn around that I don’t have a plan for, so this might be just the thing!

I have been eyeing up patterns like these Crochet Converse Slippers from Crochet Milie for years! I’m sure I would have already made them if I didn’t imagine giving them to my husband, him being genuinely delighted with them, wearing them a couple of times and then never touching them again. It sounds cynical, but we’re in our 20th year of marriage; I know how these things go. (But they’re so fun looking!)

These delightful Crocheted Snowman Slippers from Tutti Frutti Patterns are a whimsical, yet easy crochet pattern to make this delightful little pair of winter-themed, novelty slippers. And made with plush, velour yarn, as shown here, they look sooooo cozy! (I think my youngest kid would be a fan of these!)

Speaking of fuzzy slippers, I have been working with faux fur yarn lately (I just released my Furry Mouse Muff Crochet Pattern a couple of weeks ago) and I think it would be very fun to make some slippers with it. This Women’s Cuddly Faux Fur Slippers Crochet Pattern from Knit And Crochet Ever After is topped with a cozy faux fur, which looks so comfy… and maybe that would be enough faux fur? I don’t know, I’m thinking there would be something so divine about slipping your feet into fully faux fur lined slippers, but then… maybe they’d get too hot and sweaty and uncomfortable? Maybe keeping the cold breeze out at the ankles would be sufficient?

This crochet pattern for these Women’s Modern Faux Fur Fuzy Ugg Boot Slippers from The Cozy Knot Crochet also look suuuuper cozy! You can also make these with a non-faux-fur yarn as well, which would be easier to crochet, especially if you’re less experienced. The trick with faux fur yarn is knowing where to put your hook; you have to crochet by feel and if you’re new to crochet, it’s a little harder to do if you can’t see your stitches.

Looking for some faux fur yarn? Lionbrand Go For Faux is a great option!

If you’re looking to make some baby slippers, I thought this was a great idea from The Northern Moose: this Crochet Baby Booties Pattern comes with SOLES. How cool is that? I often seen beautifully handmade slippers and then they have these lovely leather or suede soles and I feel like that’s such a barrier to me making them. I love this idea of being able to get the pattern and the sole together. Very fun. So you get the digital pattern when you first buy it and then they will send you the size of sole that you order. How great is that?

Ok, knitters, you were so patient through all those crochet patterns. And now I have a few knitting patterns for you! Starting wit this super affordable Moccasin Slippers with a Cuff Knitting Pattern from Kween Bee. It is also available for free on her website, which is included in her pattern listing. But if you like to print a version off, or be able to make it without internet access or your phone going into sleep mode, this pdf printable is less than $2. This is an easy-level knitting pattern, so if you’re looking for a beginner slipper pattern, check this one out!

The Shalom Slippers knitting pattern from Dole Valley Girl Knits are worked seamlessly from the cuff down. Knit with bulky weight yarn, these soft and squishy slippers will fly off your needles and warm your toes! They come in sizes from small (women’s 5-6) to xl (men’s 10.5).

Here’s another Easy Knit Slipper Pattern from Knitting Socks Lydmila. I love the shape of these simple, minimalist slippers.

Wondering what knitting needles I use? KnitPicks Interchangeables are my go to needles!

Finally, for an adorable Baby Booties Knitting Pattern, this pattern from Baby Jumbuck Knits makes a sweet, quick and easy to knit baby slipper with a minimum of finishing. They would make a lovely baby shower gift. The pattern comes in 3 sizes, newborn-3 months, 3-6 months and 6-9 months. How adorable are these little booties?!

I hope you found a pair of slippers to crochet or knit. I’m still trying to figure out which ones I’m going to make. If you made a decision, go grab yourself a pattern today. If you’re still deciding like me, pin it for later!

This would make such a beautiful heirloom gift to pass down through generations!

Wondering what knitting needles I use? KnitPicks Interchangeables are my go to needles!

I just love this super cute Crochet Pattern of the Ice Cream Monster Yeti Amigurumi from amiguruku. This sweet little crochet pattern is nearly free (it is listed as free, but the cost is just the cost of listing and selling it on Etsy). I love the big wide closed-mouth smile on this adorable little amigurumi monster. He’s not exactly Valentine’s-themed, but who wants hearts all over everything all year round? This guy is so sweet and fun, you know you want to make one! And it’s such a deal of a pattern!

Stephanie from All About Ami just released her new Chinese New Year Tiger Crochet Pattern. This is another beautiful pattern by Stephanie; her designs are always great and also available for free on her blog. She is definitely a designer worth following!

The Tiger is just the lates in Stephanie’s collection of Chinese New Year Zodiac Amigurumi. You can get the whole adorable pattern bundle here.

This Valentine Gnome Amigurumi Crochet Pattern from Happy Dolls Hand Made is certainly Valentine’s-themed, if that’s what you’re going for. The adorable little heart appliques really read Valentine’s, which makes this little guy the perfect Valentine’s themed gift!

Need a set of crochet hooks? This Crochet Hook Set has everything you need to get started with crochet.

Ok, now switching to an amigurumi that is not Valentine’s themed at all, but is just so unique and full of amazing details, I could not leave out this Crocheted Highland Cow Amigurumi Crochet Pattern from Cottontail and Whisker. This pattern is not for beginners, but what a gorgeous result, don’t you think? So much fun! If you’re looking for a unique gift for a unique person, this pattern definitely fits the bill!

While stuffies definitely delight, I just love a functional gift! This Toastie Bread Bag Crochet Pattern from Lil Crochet Bean is such a sweet example of a functional yet so adorable amigurumi! I feel like I need this little bag to just slip my phone and wallet in and throw across my body. Who says that a grown woman can’t carry slightly silly accessories?

I finally did it! This was the year I knit myself some socks! They’re so great: I love them! They’re so warm! If you have not experienced the joy and warmth of handmade wool socks, you need to get your hands (…feet?) on some of these! *Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

First, for the knitters: The Thicksgiving Socks from Summer Lee Design Co. These socks are an easy, basic, worsted weight sock knitting pattern with three different variations. Theh pattern set includes tips and tricks for working worsted socks by marling two strands of fingering weight yarn together.

The Vanilla Socks on DPNs knitting pattern by Crazy Sock Lady Designs is another straightforward sock design. If you prefer double-pointed needles or that’s all you have, this pattern is for you, specifically designed for double-pointed needles (DPNs), it has an accompanying video tutorial that walks you through how to make the entire sock on DPNs, from setting up the Cast-On to the Kitchener-stitch toe and weaving in your ends!

The Heartnut Socks knitting pattern from Knox Mountain Knit Co is actually a physical item, unlike most of the PDF downloads that I feature here on my blog. The full colour, professionally printed knitting pattern is printed on acid-free, heirloom quality papter and includes a digital download code for Ravelry, which is definitely an interesting delivery method! Let me know if you like this and I will consider featuring something like this in my patterns! I love the beautiful and elegant heartnut inspired cable across the top, so if you’ve been wanting to make socks and also learn cables, this is the pattern for you!

If you’re looking for a deal of a pattern, this Top-Down Adult Socks Knitting Pattern from Zyapa Masha is only $0.66 Canadian! It includes 6 pages of text, charts and pictures. The socks are worked top down, using double-pointed needles OR circular needles, if you use the magic loop method (I love magic loop! I use circular needles for everything!).

Wondering what knitting needles I use? KnitPicks Interchangeables are my go to needles!

If you consider yourself an intermediate knitter, then the River Ripple Socks knitting pattern by Lucy Neatby of little barn studios is the pattern for you. Perfect for showing off a skein of hand-painted yarn, the construction is beautiful! From the description: “These socks are begun with a soft faced cuff with a decorative i-cord inspired detail. This leads into the leg pattern with cabled elongated stitches to highlight the colours in the yarn. A 70% garter stitch short row heel is used (with smaller needles for added durability) and then the leg stitch pattern is reversed with a condensed stitch pattern for the sole, adding strength, warmth and maintaining equal row height with the instep pattern. Finished with a cozy garter stitch toe to coordinate with the heel.” Sounds so good, right?

The Cozy Cabin Socks knitting pattern from Darling Jadore is another lovely worsted-weight sock knitting pattern. “A classic construction with cozy knit stitches on worsted-weight yarn, The Beginner Socks pattern is perfect for first-time sock knitters and seasoned knitters alike. Designed with beginners in mind, this pattern thoroughly guides you through each step and with video guidance. You’ll be amazed by how quickly these socks knit up, and how fun they are to make.”

The House Socks knitting pattern from HandKnit Home is a great knitting pattern for a pair of cute and comfortable ankle-length socks. The pattern is written for Adult Medium size and includes instructions for adding length to the foot for a longer sock. The pattern calls for an Estonian cast on (new cast-on for me! I love learning new techniques!), but will work just as well with a regular long-tail cast on.

How about some colour-work socks? The MIEZI Sock knitting pattern from average pony gives you detailed instructions on how to knit a pair of socks with leopard spots! How cool is that?! (Also, don’t you love the bottom of the foot, too?! The pattern contains detailed descriptions on how to knit cuff, leg, shadow wrap heel, foot and toe of your new sock. The pattern is especially designed with frequent color changes so that you rarely have long floats and none is longer than 9 or 10 stitches. So it’s perfect for practicing colorwork.

While the colourwork socks may be a little more advanced than your skills, the Retro Socks knitting pattern from D19 Eco Friendly Life might be more your speed. The diamond texture adds interest, while still allowing this pattern to be classified as a beginner pattern. So, if you’ve wanted to get started with some socks, but are bored by the plain socks of traditional beginner knit sock patterns, check out this pattern

Looking for some sock yarn? KnitPicks has a wide variety of sock yarns at a variety of price points, in a wide range of fibre contents. Local yarn shops are also great place to pick up a skein of lovely sock yarn. Since you usually only need one hank of yarn for a pair of socks, it’s a great time to splurge on some hand-dyed local yarns!

Ok, now for the crocheters. We don’t immediately think crochet for socks because the fabrci that is created is typically bulkier and holier at the same time, than I prefer in a sock. But this quote from the listing for this book is worth considering: “Having been a sock knitter for many many years, when it came to crochet socks I found it difficult to find any patterns that didn’t look bulky, stiff and uncomfortable. Tempted to try my hand at knitting lacy socks but lacking the confidence, I turned to my trusty crochet stitches and a new love was born. You really can make crochet socks that are comfortable, beautiful and practical.” The Crochet Sock Collection is a physical printed booklet from Vicki Brown Designs. If you want to get going right away, though, you can add a note to the seller and you will also be sent a PDF copy. Try out some crochet socks with this great collection os 6 crochet sock patterns!

The Herringbone Socks Crochet Pattern from Heart Hook Home is a toe-up, short row heel sock using the Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch. Available in 5 sizes from Women’s 5 to Men’s 13, you can whip up a pair of these for all your favourite poeple.

The Pearl Socks Crochet Pattern from mon petit violin was originally published in Inside Crochet magazine, issue 101. With lovely texture on the leg portion of the sock, these socks will be stunning to look at outside of the boots and perfect to wear inside of boots to keep your feet warm this winter!

The Happy Socks are an easy crochet pattern as far a socks go! This socks from this pattern by Rich Textures Crochet are made using simple single crochet stitches and worked from the cuff down. It includes a video tutorial includes the full instructions to make a women’s pair of size 5/6 (US) socks. In fact, if you don’t mind reading a pattern online, this pattern is available for free on the Rich Textures Crochet blog (there’s web address in the listing description)!

Cables are typically reserved for knitting, but the Cable Car Socks Crochet Pattern from A la Sascha incorporates beautifully textured cables into these crocheted socks that are not stiff or uncomfortable at all. Unwinding with Cable Knit & Crochet Patterns

There’s just something so special about cables in knitting and crochet: the twists and texture of braids and intricate designs. Cables can appear intimidating to the new crafter, but they’re really pretty simple. They require some careful attention, but they’re nothing mystical: they’re formed exactly how you might imagine, by twisting the work as you go. Whether you’re new to cable knitting or cable crochet (yes, you read that right–you can cable in crochet, too!), I’ve got a lovely selection of cable-knit and cable-crochet patterns for you to try out today.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

The winter hat is my go-to project for new ideas and stitches. It’s a great way to learn a new stitch because beanies are small projects that work up quickly, so the reward of accomplishment is more immediate than when working on a larger project. The Dunes Beanie Knitting Pattern from Stitch Hiker Designs is an easy cable knit beanie pattern that calls for super bulky (size 6) yarn, so it works up extra fast! And big yarn is so trendy these days. Top it with a large faux fur pompom (I love the selection from Gingersnap Handmade!)

An Oversized Load of Oversized Sweater Knitting Patterns

We have had a very mild winter here so far in Edmonton! It’s been so gorgeous and great to be out walking. And since that’s the only place I really go, the weather has been remarkably cooperative for long walks in the river valley and short ones around the neighbourhood. But I heard on the news that there’s some kind of polar vortex coming our way, which sounds really ominous, but to most Canadians, it really just means “winter.” Ooooohhh it’s going to get really cold and snowy in January and February? Sounds seasonal. Sounds normal. But it also sounds like you’re going to want a big cozy oversized sweater! I’ve found a great collection of oversized cozy sweaters for you to knit to stay warm and cozy during any polar vortext or “winter” or whatever you want to call it. Check out these stylish and cozy oversized sweater patterns and get knitting today for warmth tomorrow!

While this Go With the Flow Cropped Wool Sweater knitting pattern from HappyLoveCo is knit with bulky yarn and oversized sleeves, it’s cropped, so it’s not quite as warm as others, but it’s definitely stylish and cropped sweaters are super fun and quick to knit.

The more I looked at oversized sweaters, the more I found from HappyLoveCo, like this The Zoey Cardigan knitting pattern. There are a bunch more, so I’ve grouped them all together here. This oversized cardigan is perfect for throwing over a t-shirt or a tank top and lounging around the house. I love its relaxed feel and the speckled yarn choice here is spot on! I love the ridged seed stitch pattern chosen which adds lovely texture and interest, so even if you chose a solid yarn, there would still be plenty of interest in this summer cardigan!

This Winter Blues Cardi knitting pattern from Happy Love Co just screams cozy. COZY! COZY! COZY! Don’t you just want to grab some super bulky yarn and crawl under this gorgeous sweater?! I love it knit up with this natural wool, as well. There’s just something so dreamy about natural wool!

Happy Love Co‘s The Max Hoodie Cardigan knitting pattern is a beginner friendly oversized and incredibly cozy hooded cardigan knitting pattern. Super basic if you’re a new knitter. The only extra technique is picking up stitches. If you can do that, this easy knitting pattern is for you!

Make for Mother’s Day

Since we’re all staying home these days and there are no soccer and no basketball practices or games or concerts to attend, you might find yourself with plenty of time on your hands. There are also not as many stores open, so there’s never been a more perfect time to consider making a gift for your mom this year! And hey, if your mom isn’t around anymore or if your mom isn’t really the person you celebrate, I hope you have a gramma or an auntie or another respected, life-giving woman in your life to celebrate at this time of year. I’ve got a great collection of patterns for you to choose from to make this a fantastic and memorable Mother’s Day, even if it might be on lock-down.

*Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on them and buy something, you don’t pay any extra, but I may get a small commission.*

Probably the mom in your life has all the awesome rugs she needs. But I could totally find a place for this Modern Scandinavian Design Crochet Rug! I’ve been wanting to make a rug for a while and I have some ideas in the works… but in the mean time, I might check out this fun pattern. What do you think? Would your mom love this rug?

Maybe your mom is a bit more whimsical and would enjoy a smaller fun little rug made from this Pavo the Peacock Mat Crochet Pattern? I love the fuzzy yarn used int he sample on the feathers. It really adds a touch of extra. This adorable little mat would look sweet in a baby’s room or just anywhere you’d want to add that extra little bit of whimsy!

My mom’s been wanting me to make her a tea cozy for a while now (I promise, mom, I’ve totally been thinking about it… I just haven’t got quite the right thing yet). I’m not sure this is what my mom would be looking for, but this cute Sweater Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern is adorable and would totally keep your tea cozy! (Cosy, cozy? What do you say? I’m cool either way. I’m Canadian like that though.)

I don’t know if there’s always room for another pillow, but if there’s not, it’s a good time to cycle a new one in! This Chunky Bobble Crochet Pillow Pattern would make an adorable and quick to crochet gift for your mom this year. There are so many cute pillow patterns out there, I’m having a hard time deciding what to make. I used to be much more anti-throw-pillow, but much to my mother in law’s delight, pillows have grown on me a little more. I still don’t love a ton of them on the bed because you can’t sleep with all those pillows on the bed and then where do you put them? What a hassle. And honestly, our bed doesn’t get made nearly as often as I would like, so then there’d be pillows all over the room most of the time. Ain’t nobody got room for that.

See how I’m having such a tough time deciding on a pillow to make? Check out this adorable Dahlia Pillow Crochet Pattern! This mustard colour is my jam (I don’t really like jam… certainly not as much as I like the phrase “my jam,” but I digress). This pillow would look fantastic in my sitting room, with my mustard yellow chairs. Would your mom like this?

Or maybe your mom would be more into a Crochet Fern Pillow? If you can’t decide between one of these two beauties (the dahlia one and this one), you can get them both in a bundle for a deal. I think they go together great and would be a lovely change for spring!

Moving away from the decor options, perhaps your mom would like this easy-wearing Park City Poncho Crochet Pattern. If all you know how to do is granny stitch, this project would be a great pattern to branch out into garments. Simple construction, simple stitch, stunning result. I love a beginner crochet pattern, even though I can make more advanced projects. Sometimes the simple ones are more impressive… and wearable!

Is your mom a hot mama? When we can go to the beach again and go on warm weather vacations, this Crochet Dress Pattern makes a gorgeous beach cover up, perfect for the resort! For now, I guess it’ll have to do for around the house and lounging around the backyard.

One of the things my mom likes is swans. I’m not sure this Clara the Swan amigurumi pattern is exactly what she’d be looking for because I’m not really sure where she’d put it. Maybe in her office to bring a little bit of joy. But it sure is a sweet little amigurumi!

This Crochet Swan Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern might find a place more easily in my mom’s house. I love this tapestry crochet pattern from the shop Manuska. It would also make a very fun and classy wall decor for a baby’s room, don’t you think? So cute.

Well… here it is… my mom wants a tea cozy and she loves swans. So here it is: the Swan Tea Cozy Pattern! hahahahahaha! I don’t know… I just… can’t. The placement of the spout…. oh man! It’s just so weird. That said, it’s a really well-done pattern, clever and it really looks like a swan… but with a weird… appendage. What about you? Would you make this? Is it good for a laugh?

If you’re not the maker type, Etsy has some great gift options from small businesses in their Mother’s Day gift guide. There’s still time to grab something that’s ready to go. Buy small right now. Many people are depending on their side gigs in difficult times. Your purchases mean so much more to makers and designers than they do to Amazon or Walmart. So pick up one of these cute patterns and get making today or pin it for later!
